House spiders spin irregular webs like black widows, which are just lots of jumbled up webbing. Structurally it is stronger and is composed of more threads than those spiral webs of the same size.

it's a well known fact that spiders webbing is stronger than steel. The problem is that they stick it to stuff so it comes off things, but if you spun steel as thin as a spider's web you would break the steel strand easier than the spider's webbing.
