The most UNDERRATED HDD

Ok, I have a Samsung SP1213C 120GB drive for my games, and I think there is a dead spot in the drive (computer will access a sector and freeze). So to replace I went out and got a WD 2000JD 200GB. I heard all kinds of good things for this WD so I slapped down 2 bills and I'm on my way. I hate it.

My Samsung, not only the quietest drive EVER, but its mad fast. According to HDTach, the burst on the WD was around 75MB/s. Burst on the Samsung is 140MB/s!! Access time is 13.4ms on Samsung and 14.5 for WD. Other than the access time, the Samsung even beats burst on my raptor by close to 40MB/s. ( raptor burst around 105)

Maybe its the setup of platters or whatever, but I never really appreciated this drive until now. Luckily its under $100 so I can get it replaced quickly, but this time I may just buy 2 and raid 1/0 it (I'm have over 30 games installed dating back to Quake 2 ,and I am too sentimental to delete).

Anyone else have this drive and want to comment?

Burst transfer speed is completely pointless. It's the media throughput that counts.

Had one in my bro's rig for a while. All I can say is it's quiet and fast. No going back to Western Digital... Ever. WD is just way too loud and so many of them went bad on me I don't even want to look at another WD HDD anymore... It sickens me. There's a good reason they reduced their 3 year warranty to 1 year one... :(

it is very true samsung hdds came a long way to become quite good. my last samsung was awesome till it croaked on me and took all my precious data with it. that left a lasting impression on me  but most seem to like the drive and have no complaints whatsoever.

I know that people like the Samsung brand of drives for DVR upgrades. They never have rebates though :(

I have that drive. It dumped on me once while overclocking but other then that, not a single problem. Fast, quiet, and cheap.
