The most ridiculous forum thread I have come across in a while.

I don't think it's THAT ridiculous of a thread. I've read far dumber ones. And some of the responses aren't too bad.

::Edit:: Read a little further on the post. I love how the OP assumes what the afterlife is going to be like:

"Look at it more like you're a kid dropped off at Disneyland and there are no lines, you're with all your friends, and there really is no concept of time.

Maybe you can also visit past eras on Earth (perhaps that could explain ghosts) ... think how much fun that could be; observing the Roman times, the old west, etc.

It won't be some boring sit on a cloud and sing hymns all day shit." :D

Ha ha. It is getting a bit more ridiculous.

Religious fundamentalists are obnoxious because of how certain they are that their point of view is the only correct one and that every one else is completely wrong. I am always surprised by how similar, in tone, many atheist's posts are to those of fundamentalist religious extremists.

No matter what anyone chooses to believe, there is no way to prove anything about what God is or isn't or whether God exists at all. There is nothing wrong with having beliefs, as long as people are honest with themselves that their beliefs are choices and not verifiable, concrete fact. Agnostics, are the most logically correct, since they embrace the doubt and uncertainty inherent in the whole God debate.

Whenever anyone clings dogmatically to a belief, it is usually to try to convince themselves that they are not as mired in self doubt as they are, because the prospect of living with that uncertainty would make life meaningless for them, and that is to unbearable for their sense of self-importance to cope with.

Religious fanatic, or agnostic fanatic, or atheist fanatic. All cut from the same cloth with different standpoints.

If your assuming that I am agnostic, I am not, I have very specific beliefs about God, but I recognize that my beliefs are personal choices, and not facts.

Would an agnostic fanatic be someone who is certain about their doubt?

I am not saying you are, I am just saying that it doesn't matter what a persons beliefs are if they are a fanatic. They are still a fanatic. Not saying you are, just that the agnostic/athiests who pull the same type stuff as a religious fanatic (along the lines of you're going to hell b/c you don't believe in God stuff) are equally bad. I dislike both equally.

Why are atheists so angry? Why can't they accept the fact that some people truly believe in God?

Maybe because some of those who believe in god are just as obnoxious about their beliefs.

Generally an agnostic "fanatic" is one who is convinced that compelling support for either side of the debate cannot be gathered. Generally they go beyond saying that we cannot produce evidence to prove either side, but even find support which would make a view more likely than another.

Yeah that's pretty retarded. His avatar is hot though.

I would say the recent legal advice on a lease thread here was worse.

And you can't beat the troll that was the mall ninja.

I can't believe it......

I think that list lines up pretty well with which groups it is most socially acceptable to be prejudiced toward. I think being black would be a negative factor to more than 6% of people, but only 6% would admit it. It's much more socially acceptable to hate Muslims.

No, man. Seriously. Most atheists are always ready to insult, ridicule, argue, and scream against religious people, while most religious people are very quiet about the whole thing. Maybe a very small number of religious people are out there trying to convince atheists, but it is only a small number of religious people..

All generalizations are wrong, and everyone who generalizes to the degree that you just did is a stupid asshole.

I honestly hope this is a troll thread gone extra-successful :disgust:

How is this different than any of the atheist threads that pop up here every week?

it's not.

my point was not how christians are bigots. can't you see how the thread is past 2,600 posts and it keeps going and going with neither side just admitting to the fact that beliefs are beliefs and no matter how hard they argue, nothing's going to change? why not just let each other be?

At first I thought you found a board where the level of discourse about religion is below ATOT's. And then someone goes and says "Agnostic fanatic". Dictionary. Use it.
