The most recent movie you saw at the theaters where people applauded at the end

I was reading about some loser who got mad that people didn't applaud at the end of Act of Valor, saying it was disrespectful to the Navy SEALs who were in it even though they weren't actually in the theater. Go figure. I hardly go to theater shows anymore, but Avatar was the last one I can remember where people applauded at the end, and before that I have a hard time remembering the last one, was probably LOTR:ROTK or Collateral actually.

Hmm, I usually don't waste my energy. Why would I clap for a movie. The movie ain't going to appreciate it. Also, I've not been to a public theater since 2004.

I don't care WTF the movie is. Applauding at the end of a movie is POINTLESS. NOBODY associated with the making of the film is there to hear it. It is the equivalent of a tree falling in the woods and nobody is around to hear it.

Go ahead projection boy, take a bow!

Stuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuupid.

I've never seen that, but I rarely go to movies. I could probably count the theatre movies I've seen on two hands. I'm with BarkingGhostar. Applause is to show appreciation for a well done live show. Unless the projectionist did something amazing to keep the movie going, applause is stupid.

Edit:
Changed one hand to two hands. I've probably seen 10 movies in the theatre.

I agree, clapping is just pointless. That being said, it was probably Iron Man 2 or Dark Knight that was the last time anyone clapped.

ppl don't hold back their applause for movies these days. initially, I thought the applause was saved for really spectacular movies but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Back in the day, everyone clapped at every movie. It kind of stopped in the mid to late 80s.

This must be an american thing because where I live no one applauds... Lol, like others said its pretty ridiculous, since no one responsible for the making of the movie is even there to hear it, why would you even bother? People here just storm off right when the movie ends

The last time I heard applause was when someone threw up in the auditorium and they stopped the film to mop it up. They sprayed some air freshener and the people applauded as the crew walked out.

It not just about applauding the cast/crew/director, it could be because the movie hit the spot with the audience, something of national/cultural/historical significance.

I haven't been to an actual movie theater in so long that I cannot remember what year it was ... such is the quality of movies shoveled by Hollywood. When I used to go to the movies people clapped at the end for one of two reasons ... either the movie was great or they were just thankful that it was over.

Usually, it was the later ...
