The ad from my crappy regional cable company

This is the most frustrating ad I've ever seen. I decided today, because of this deal, to bite and get Digital Cable and a DVR. So I thought I'd get the Digital Cable and a DVR for $7 per month more than what I currently pay, because that's what the advertisement says. Unfortunately, it's $7 each for DVR and Digital Cable, so it's $14 more per month. I called and yelled for a few minutes about how their ad is misleading but they wouldn't budge on it. What do you guys think. Is this a ridiculously misleading ad or am I a jackass for thinking so?

It's a misleading ad, but it being a cable company you should have been suspicious. Comcrash pulls that ****** here all the time.

usually they would say each or have a * next to the $7 and in very very tiny writing on the bottom say each.

Plus the fact they say & between the services.

Yes, misleading.

They use an ampersand. That means $7 for both one AND the other. If it's $14, they should have said $7 for one OR the other. By their ad, I cannot see how it is possible to get that it's $7 each.

Highly misleading. There shhould have been a "each" immidiatly after the $7
Contact the better business bureau and see what they say.
Good luck.

Without the word "each" after the $7, the $7 should refer to both services together. The word "and" is usually meant to group things in this manner.

Ya'know; it's kinda hard to make a decision on the "misleadingness" of the ad when I CAN'T LOOK AT THE AD MYSELF.

Thanks for editing your OP and making your post useless and yourself look dumb.

Was about to suggest that. A BBB search turns up a number of "Blue Ridge Cable" companies within PA, one of them must be the OP's.

you do not need more then one outlet to run basic cable and a DVR.

The pricing I got is for a single outlet. Nobody is talking multiple outlets here.

No, not BBB. Contact your local prosecutor. There are huge fines for this kind of behavior, and only hitting them in their wallet is going to have any effect. If BBB was any good, they'd have stopped it by now.

it's not misleading, it's flat out lying. it says 'and.' not 'or.' report them to the federal trade commission and the state regulatory board.

Yup. Hopefully they'll do something. The ad is misleading, and they're probably in violation of law by not honoring it.

That's pretty misleading.

I saw an ad in a computer magazine years ago that stuck in my mind. It had a graph that showed the performance of one processor against another or something like that. It was a bar graph, and one of the bars was several times larger than the other. But the values on the bars were something like 1400 and 1200 (just making those numbers up). The bar graph started at 1100, meaning the processor that was really only ~15% faster looked like it was more like 3x faster.

Now, you could say that any intelligent person would see the numbers and put two and two together - and I agree. But the intent is clearly to mislead, even if it was not entirely successful. There was no other reason to draw the graphs like that.

The whole point of a graph is to graphically represent numbers and relationships between those numbers. This graph completely misrepresented the relationship between the numbers.
