I won't ever buy a name brand pc. I always build my own. The only time I might consider buying one is if I buy a laptop... :)

Before I started building my own computers, I bought a top of the line P133 Dell with a high end 17" monitor and a $600 video card(#9).

It cost...$3700 in '95 (I think it was '95)!

Never again will I spend that much!

It doesn't pay to get the newest hardware because it gets devalued so quickly.

I'll never pay more than ~$150-200 for a CPU again that's for sure.

I once bought a Macintosh II (first color one) it was over 8 grand I believe. (I was just a kid, so don't laugh at me).

Back in November of 1993, my parents bought my first computer for me when I was in 7th grade. It was a Packard Bell Legend 2000 from Best Buy. The specs on the computer were:

486SX-25mhz (I overclocked it to 33mhz a few years later)
4MB RAM
170MB Hard Drive
512K Video on MB
Sound Galaxy 16 ISA Sound Card
Creative Labs 2x CD-ROM Drive (new at the time, first one out of my friends and on my street to get one)
Software Toolworks Encyclopedia (a KILLER App at the time)
2400 bps modem (I remember those bbs days, and the free AOL trials I did on the 2400 bps)

14" 0.39 dot pitch monitor...it was not too great...ran 640*480*256 colors

Canon Bubblejet BJ-200 Inkjet Printer-This printer was kickass at the time (360dpi), set us back $350, but no one had inkjet at the time, and the printouts were very impressive.

Of course we were convinced into buying all the service plans, etc. Which did come in handy when the Packard Bell mouse started to smoke and melt...we got a $60 Microsoft mouse out of that for free...the PB monitor died about 3 years ago, after it too started to smoke...hehhe..

All the computers were built by me after this one, so they were all decent.

Total cost of the computer: $2100
