The most expensive car estimate you got for repair?

$1200 + for a number of things a dealership quoted me on a mazda 626

when my mechanic friend got back in town i had him do what was needed for about $300....evil dealers

None...but I just got an estimate of $49,000 to have my van fully wheelchair adapted.

Why not just buy a van that's already fully equipped for this?

Because they cost just as much...I can get govt help to pay for that (although nowhere near $50k), but not if I bought an already adapted van. I also cant afford a loan that big.

1500-2500 to replace AC system that was causing the cabin to flood.

It was actually a leak in the rear windshield that I fixed with a $1 tube of rubber sealant. 😀

2500 for a new transmission.

Ask monster garage to so a special episode for this. I'm sure it'd be cool to have it done, and for much less than 49 large ones. Heck, I'd attempt this if I had a welder and knew people that knew hydralics etc. OTOH, I never imagined it could cost that much to get a van retro'd for wheelchair. Don't the conversion vans cost that much already?

Mine was about $3k, but my dad's vette cost $7,500 to have the hood replaced and other front end work (someone pulled out in front of him and he wasn't able to stop).

In 1990 my parent's '89 accord got rear ended and had a quote of somewhere around 8k, I think they eventually got er fixed for about 5-6k

Abra wanted $4500 to repair my wrecked 626 - involved bending the front right end of the frame slightly back into place, new front fenders, front bumper, hood, paint, windshield, and most expensively, the airbags :|

I sold the same 626 to a friend, and he took it to a small body shop, and quoted him $1300 to do the same thing (minus the airbags, windshield, & paint job) :Q

I used to work for a quad ... the van has a hydraulic lift to get in, but that's the beginning. A lot of things are custom ... and all the driving/steering/controls are modified. In addition to floor overhaul and locking mechanisms.

It's no small job.

What's the biggest repair bill I ever handed to a customer ?

It is going to be about $70,000 this coming fall when the full restoration of the 1958 Porsche 356a speedster will be completed.

Here are a few pics of the completely rebuilt engine ;

Sorry for the fuzzy pics but I had just walked into the heated garage and the camera was still ice cold, the lens had fogged up on me.
The assembly of the body will commence within the next two weeks, so you guys will probably not see me around for some time.

Chao 🙂

Some of you may remember my thread written about a week ago. The accident just happened and i haven't gotten any estimates yet. I'm guessing about $10,000. The thread will be updated. Keep your fingers crossed for me guys!

Good luck with your car ColdCut 🙂!

6500 after I got hit in a 1988 Volvo 740. Some things that were going to be replaced were the hood, right front lights, bumper, right front panel, the frame was bent, and a couple other small things. Insurance totaled it, we bought it back for 30 bucks, got a used light assembly, banged the frame with some mallets until the hood could close, and I'm still driving it now.

My God that's beautiful. If you're not careful, you might just end up with an little white 914 with Ohio plates on your doorstep. 😛
