I look really young. I've also been working "real" jobs since I was 19. The number one problem I've faced in my career is my age; I've been clearly and blatantly discriminated against and there's simply nothing I can do. Hell, I've even had a boss say "I don't have to listen to you because you're XX years old."

The "how old are you" question still comes up in some interviews. When it does, I never get a call back. Such is life.

What's really shitty is that it's discrimination when you think somebody is too old, but thinking somebody is too young is perfectly fine.

Been asked all of those questions.

"Do you drink socially"
A minimum basic requirement for an outside sales Rep.

Outside of the PC required BS law saying you cant ask certain things, if you cant handle those questions, dont interview for a sales position especially not with me..

^ Are you saying, drinking and taking customers to a gentleman's club is a requirement for a sales job?

That phone is what a phone was back in the 50s. There was nothing else. Just that. One day they made one that wasn't black. It was like CHRISTMAS.

And in most homes, it was on your wall, you didn't own it, and you payed extra for a private line.

It may be illegal on paper, but in this job market who would want to risk fighting it? A lot of employers even ask for Facebook passwords now. Not much you can do if you really need a job.

I knew a company whose salesmen were encouraged to wine and dine current and perspective clients. At a convention in Las Vegas, one salesman even put call girls and a session at a bunny ranch on his corporate card; he took some clients out for a good time. Management did not raise an eyebrow as nothing illegal happened (plus they got the account). Helps to be a private company that doesnt have to answer to anyone either.
