The modern IDEAL woman body shape is NOT a new idea at all.

Hey all,

I've been studying a lot of early Indian art, (stuff from as far back as 2500 BC) and I am AMAZED at the way women are depicted in early Indian sculpture. EVERY woman looks like she has big Pam Anderson implants (I'm talking perfectly round here), skinny little waist, and big, curvy hips. Everything about these sculptures seems to be based on the "impossible ideal" women are complaining about all the time. That ideal was not made by the media, folks. It's been around for a LOOOONG TIME. --Just FYI.

Big curvy hips and big breasts have more to do with fertility. A "voluptuous" woman would not only have an easier time at giving birth, but also shows health - so she could provide for her kids. That ideal has been around for millenia.
Only lately has the "ideal" body type changed to the more slim, no curves, look that you see in models and stuff today.

tg,

No, I'm not talking about Venus of Willendorf, here. I'm not talking about headless women with big milk bags the size of her whole body. I'm talking about slim, firm bodies with hard, round boobs. yes, they are fertitlity symbols, but not like the idols you are referring to. What I'm telling you is that the MODERN IDEAL is practically identical to these sculptures.

I thought the modern ideal was a skinny waif boy looking thing like Kate Moss, and that NcBeal chick.

Anna Nicole Smith, Pamela Anderson, and others like that are not considered the ideal.

Two women are telling a man what the ideal is. No. Maybe that's who women want to be, but as you may have noticed, all the "cowbell" going around is skinny like that, but with the addition of SUBSTANTIAL pseudo-mammary. Maybe I should calrify further by saying "what men consider ideal," because you gals are talking about flat chests, and I don't know any guy who thinks that's the ideal.

WHen I think "Ideal woman pissing women off" I think of the barbie fiasco. Barbie couldn't exist in real life because why? The weight of her upper body would snap her unrealistically tiny waist like a twig.

The ideal woman body shape (as determined by surveys) is NOT a new idea because certain body shapes are supposed to imply something about fertility, thus satisfying the wants that have been hard-coded into human men. Research has shown that men of all cultures (including those that have been totally isolated from the pervasive American culture) prefer a certain waist to hip ratio, as that is obviously the ideal from a fertility perspective.

As much as some people like to deny it, there are scientific reasons for attraction.

ah, well, after a quick review of just what I DO have, my girl is quite "well endowed" in the chest-ern region, and f*ckin' hot in the ass region. I think that giving measurements of my girlfriend would be kind of rude, but I've not been more attracted to anyone else in my whole life than I am her.

:D

"the addition of SUBSTANTIAL pseuo-mammary"

Sorry for intervening, but I got a good laugh out of that statement. :D

So what is the male ideal? I don't there could be a 50% decision for one body type. Personally I like well rounded, but by no means huge breasts or other parts. I'll bet a lot will disagree with me and want balloon breasts, other will want a totally slim woman, etc. There is no agreed upon shape even in mens eyes even though there may be common components.

Women aren't supposed to be that way. They're supposed to be soft & have curves.

Hooray for curves!

I watched TLC or History channel yesterday. It was some show about underwear. So they said in the 20's flat chests were the "IN" thing, so women would try and make themselves look flat. I think every type of healthy woman was considered ideal at one time in history. Didn't they like fat chicks in the renaisance. All those women in the paintings would be considered clinically obese now :) Or in middle ages the huge foreheads were IN, so all the chicks would pull their hair back as far as they could, and almost looked like they were balding. I think it also depends on the climate. I am sure an eskimo living in an igloo wouldn't want his wife to be a skinny tall chick, cus she would just freeze to death.
