The Modded Cow Case I Posted A Week Ago With Pics

A week or so behind us, someone posted a thread entitled "I Hate My Case."

I posted a series of photos explaining my modifications to a 1996 Gateway 2000 full-tower ATX case. The case was destined to be a file server, but it was being modded to eventually accommodate next year's dual-core build project (or . . . whatever . . .)

Here's a "glo-in-the-dark, god in a box" photo:

Resurrection

It's wonders only begin to unfold. The blinding light of benchmark-enhancing blue LED -- too much for the average mortal -- is veiled by a front-panel with a Spire-pad backing to deaden noise . . . . and to insure that Anandtech geeks are not permanently blinded . . .

In the not too-distant future, I will unveil the new side-panel window when I've completed that part of the project.

Thanks. I either lack imagination, or have a "conservative" inclination about these things.

The LEDs come in that "string-of-pearls-embedded in silly-cone rubber" by Sunbeam called "Night Magic." They're about $7 at NewEgg, can be strung together by plugging in additional units on the end of the string, and they only draw something like 0.02A, 12VDC.

Cheap as it sounds -- remember this thing has a beige "Gateway" bezel -- I put aluminum "auto-shop" tape underneath the panel where the LEDs are "hidden," with more tape on the exterior surface but behind the modder's mesh grill holding the plate with the noise deadener.

It "reflects" pretty well, I guess . . . . 😀
