i revently bought a 7800GT CO SE on newegg.com for $295 and the 7900GT is listed for $300, i can't wait to get home and register for the step up. they are backordered so it should take a while, is there a minimum charge for the program?

I don't believe that there is a minimum. Their FAQ states only that the card you are upgrading to has to be priced higher. I'd say give it a try and let us know what happens.

I'm am in a very similar situation, myself. I bought the $359 N518 version that came with the free mobo. According to posts on their message boards, I can keep the mobo and step up to a 7900GT (CO or CO-Superclock, got to call for the prices when I get home) for almost no money:D I also can't wait to get home and register. Hopefully the queue isn't too big by the time I get there.

I called and the CS rep said that they don't have an official price for the step up 7900's yet. I'm sending my 7800GT CO (bought for $330) for a 7900GT CO Superclock...hope it doesn't cost me too much.

Me too, Me too!

I got the low end 7800 so I could play games on my new PCIe system.
Now I wait patiently until they reveal their 7900GTX 512 XT OC, super, Giga-card and buy it!

Would I be able to do this if I have removed the UPC bar code from the package for an EVGA rebate, which by the way I have not received yet?
The instructions specify that the packaging must be included. But, there is nothing specifically about the UPC bar code.

Posts from eVGA reps on their message boards say that the UPC code can be removed and you won't be penalized. However, they deduct the value of the rebate from your purchase price in determining your step-up credit. Also, you do have to return the box and all accessories when you mail in your card, otherwise you get hit with a 15% restocking fee. What the 15% is applied to is anybody's guess.

Keep us posted on your "step-up" results (i.e., how long it took to get the new card?, how much out-of-pocket costs did you pay in the end?, etc.).

So I paid 400 for mine a while ago with the free motherboard. So does tht mean I would get 400 credit because when I talked to them before they said the card is what's worth 400 seeing how the motherboard was free with purchase.

you have to send them back whatever that came with the card

it includes the "Free" mb that you received

Other people say that's wrong, the longer thread on the eVGA step up program has a few people going through the process and apparently the motherboard is seperate.

I stepped up my 7800gt a few weeks ago and that came with a free board. I didnt have to send the board back and I only paid the difference of what I paid for the combo.

i spoke with an evga cs rep today and he said that they'll have availability and prices up on their site by tomorrow. i'm stepping up both my 7800gt's for the 79's but since i purchased them 3 weeks apart (1/6 & 1/27), i'm going to send in one and run off the other until the first 7900gt arrives and then step up the second one so's to avoid any downtime. btw, does anyone know their turn around time?

They will probably be flooded with step ups so it will take a while.

I had a RMA that took just over a week.

i found out i was 40th in line for a step up to the "565" (7900 GT CO 550/1580) part and while the csr wouldn't disclose exact inventory numbers, he was very optimistic that i'd get 'em in the first round ;) .
btw, they do offer cross shipping. you just have to have a credit card to cover it.

you can cancel it. i turned down the step up to a 7800GTX in order to go with the 7900gt's. it just required a call to their cs.

What exactly do they do with all these stepped up cards that they recieve, i cant see how this would be profitable.
