It was probably built just for research/educational purposes, even if it would contain same amount of transistors(billions) connected same way as is in modern x86 CPU, it still would be tad slower given enormous distance between components caused by enlargement to this scale.
But yeah it's very neat that the guy did this. Not sure on what architecture it is based, but it will probably be similar to x86 16-bit 80286 Intel CPUs for office PCs in 80s era.
