the media's obsession with weblogs is stupid

people have been ranting on the internet forever. cnn stumbles upon this fact 10 years late, and makes a big deal of it. wtf.

They actually had an important role in the '04 election, I think that is one reason why they have more of the spotlight now.

I don't see what the big deal is with them. But you're right, it's a catchy word and the media loves to latch onto anything that's both techy and catchy

Yeah, I've noticed that too. Especially on their shows like Inside Politics, they always have to check in on the weblogs. It's funny. I guess they figure it's showing how anyone can become a pundit.

Of course they are. And you know what? It will happen again and more people are going to die and it will happen again after that. Change takes time as history repeats itself.

I like podcasts...

well 2600.com has had "Off The Hook" available for download for many years now..

anyways, I listen to about 5 podcasts a week...

I get my dose of funk radio from a podcast, so I think its good.

the reason 'podcast' is stupid is because it's just a recorded sound file you can play back on your ipod. just like any other mp3. why we needed a new word like 'podcast' to describe something that has been around since the birth of the internet i don't know

I enjoy listening to podcasts. I hate the moniker, but everyone knows what they are now so... I use it as well instead of trying to create my own term

If these words were people, I would embrace their genocide.

Exactly.
Just a sound file to download. You aren't "casting" anything. And it's not specific to iPods. Yes, I have my own quibbles and you just voiced them.

Yep, they were the driving force behind showing that CBS' 60 Minutes II broadcast used fake/forged documents. That pretty much put blogs (at least political blogs) on the map.

CNN is years late in catching up to anything though. They finally discovered DDR a few months ago.

The media is a little threatened by the internet & the blogs, readership of papers is way down, and who the heck watches TV news anymore besides your parents & grandparents?

So they're trying desperately to embrace blogs & podcasts to stay alive.
