I'm so tired of the media's BS. I'm so tired of hearing that we are in a major recession every time that I turn on the TV. If our country is in a recession it's because the media has talked us into one.

I'm very sorry about Sept. 11 and the lives lost there, but how in the hell did that event cause our country to dive like the media suggests? Like the old saying goes, "If you say something enough, people start to believe it." That's exactly what's happened with this "recession". People sit around and listen to the media and they panic. It's a vicious cycle that the media is responsible for, IMHO.

well, a huge part of the economy is related to travel...and what happened on the 11th is the worst thing that could happen to the travel industry. also, a lot of people are scared to go out to public places because of terrorism. (i.e. no crowds at the mall i.e. poor economy)

that, on top of an already shaky stock market was a recipe for disaster.

the truth, though, is that you can't OFFICIALLY say you're in a recession until at least 6 months or so of downturn have gone by...and usually by that time you're hopefully about to recover

and that seems to be the consensus right now. hopefully, xmas will be good for retailers and we'll be doing bettery by february or so

the media sure DOESN'T help things though...but that's the news. you never hear the news say "10 thousand planes landed safely today" but you hear them SHOUT "ONE jetliner went down!"

Yes, the media is guilty of sensationalism to an extent. But, dot-com's and other companies have been laying-off thousands of people for the past 18+ months, and the stock market has been shaky for just as long, and I don't think the media has much to do with that.
