Mazdaspeed3 engine isn't good. It runs out of steam at around 6000 rpm, requiring you to short-shift. Like I said before, bring back the RX-7 engine and put it into the RX-8 and it'll be one hell of a car. Excellent straight line performance, and exceptional handling. Install some lighter parts such as carbon fiber and aluminum to offset any extra weight the RX-7 engine may bring into the RX-8 will definitely give the STI and EVO X a run for its money.

Maybe just bring back the rx-7 altogether. Now that was a sexy car.

The MS3 engine probably has more torque at 1000 rpm than the RX rotary has at peak. I'm sure they could play with the turbo setup to make the engine a bit more race-oriented and in a balanced RWD car like the RX, that would be sweet. MS3 motor gets better mpg's too.

I must have not got the memo telling me that 240hp is low. It's not all about 0-100 numbers or 1/4 mile times.

Don't call people homo's if they drive a Miata/MX-5. If you start with that then I'm afraid you have no place talking about cars full stop. I've owned one, they are not 'fast' but the drive is excellent. If you have so little faith in your own sexuality that you deny yourself the experience then you're a fool.

why would you put a piston engine in anything labeled RX. they have the RX name for a reason. if it had a piston engine in it, then it is not a RX anymore.

They can put a piston engine and rename it MX-8 instead of RX-8. I don't really care what it's called, I just know that if it had a piston engine, I would be driving one now, but with a rotary engine, I won't touch it. The abysmal fuel economy relative to the performance may have been a quirk when gas was cheap, but now it's a deal breaker. There is no point in continuing using a rotary just for the sake of using a rotary. It's time to admit that it's a dead end engine technology and move on.

Also dont roataries have a reputation of not lasting long either? I heard that on the rx7 the engine/rotor or whatever had to be replaced at around 70k miles or so, is it true?

I think some of you guys are missing the point in asking Mazda to dump the rotary.

The engine and car has a character all its own, while I would like the see the rotary make more power, character goes a long way.

Go out and drive a rotary, it's like an electric car, smooth as silk.

A rotary is a sublime experience. Anyone interested in cars even in the slightest should drive one. Very strange sound and power delivery, but also quite satisfying.
