Anyone else jacking in when this launches? Anyone actively in beta? Anyone play it for 2 or less days in beta 3 months ago and think it's stupid?

Having been active in the community since the beginning, I know just about everything there is to know about the game, so if anyone wants to know anything I can probably tell ya.

What do you think of it?

I saw someone else playing and it was laggy as hell...

I think it is great. It was probably laggy because the game is still in beta. Almost every patch has increased optimizations in the last couple months, it will be smooth in time for release.

Enter the Matrix has no connection. They aren't even in the same genre. It's like comparing apples to lions.

How much have you played it? Why?

I think it rocks for many reasons. The skill tree is unmatched for one thing. When my replacement video card arrives, I'll launch it and take a screenshot. It's unbelievable. And your character can have every single one of the skills, no need for multiple characters.

The main reason I wont be buying it is that out of 4 products in the matrix universe that I've had the displeasure of witnessing, only one was good (the original movie). I dont like those odds.

I own the Ultimate Matrix Collection, which includes all 3 movies, the making of all 3, and the animatrix. I enjoy the movies, especially the 3rd. I have not, and will not, play any other games based on it though. I also was big on LotR, and the only game I bothered buying based on it was Battle for Middle-Earth. I don't generally like the idea of games based on movies. The Matrix Online isn't a random game based on the theme, it's the actual continuation of the story.

Thats the thing though, Matrix 2 & 3 made me just not give two sh!ts about the rest of the story.

I wasn't initially a fan of M2 or M3, but they kinda grew on me after a couple sit-throughs.

I initially was let down by M2, but it has grown on me too. You absolutely have to watch the animatrix though to get parts of the story left out from the trilogy. That kid in M3 has his own episode all about his story, one of the episodes is the prelude to M2, and one is the whole history of how it all began.

the only mmorpg i played was city of heroes.
it was fun. but i think a game would have to really impress me for me to want to bother with that sort of experience again.

Maybe you should check out MXO, if you like the Matrix theme.

I'm going to go take a screenshot of the skill tree real quick, that's one of the biggest things I like about this game.

Ok, the skill tree. Look in this first screenshot. Looks normal enough, 3 main trees with lots of skills right? Wrong.
Screenshot

Those little boxes are not skills. They are trees. You see the 3 different colors of boxes? Those are the coder, hacker, and operative main branches. But each little box is an entire tree of skills.

With at least 6 skills per tree, many with more than that, that is a lot of skills to choose from. And you can have them all. There are no classes, there are no skill points. The only thing that keeps you from having a skill is how much money you have. You have a memory capacity, so you can't actually use them all at the same time, but you can change out abilities at any hardline.

No, that's not what I meant. I went to Gamestop and pre-ordered the game for $5 which goes towards the purchase if I chose to buy it. It comes with a beta key though. They didn't charge my card anything when I signed up.

One of the preorder perks is a free spot in beta, so if you preorder the game at a big chain like Gamestop, you get in. It's taken off the total cost of the game when it is released, so you can really pay as much as you want for preorder, up to the total cost of the game. $5 is just the minimum.

The CC is necessary because it's part of the process. They test the billing system too. They do NOT charge you ever.

do the missions get any different?

i downloaded the beta and played for a few hours and so far every mission ive done has involved me running to talk to someone and going into a building that looks exactly like the one i went to before it...

if it keeps going like this then i will definetly not buy the game...

There were no multiple phases of beta, it's still the same beta. There was a stress test 1 and a stress test 2, but all normal beta testers were active during the whole thing.

There are ways to change the way the mission goes. If you notice when you download a mission, you can even choose difficulty. When accepting missions from primary contacts, where you go and who you meet depends entirely on where you are. You can do the same mission multiple times and it can be in different buildings with different people. I recently got my ass handed to me in a mission. Almost done and a security guard layed me out.
