Hi Friends,

I am writing a Paper (Read: I have to) on the movie, The Matrix. So I need some help and ideas and your thoughts on the subject. I know that Matrix is a movie where different things can be argued about, like the subject, the characters, etc, etc,. And so I want to know what others think about this movie before I put down my views on the topic.

Here are some points, I would like to know your thoughts on:

  • What is the Matrix?

The characters, Neo, Morpheus, Trinity, The agents.

    Who are the Agents?

Is Matrix a dream, reality, or something else?

If you let me what you think on this, more from a philosophical point of view than a Sci-Fi Movie, I will really appreciate it.

Thanks In Advance

:) Ferrari :)

What is the Matrix?
A Program made by the "machines", sortof like Ultima Online and other games like that.

The characters, Neo, Morpheus, Trinity, The agents.
I´m lazy and waiting for my food so i´ll skip that one

Who are the Agents?
Programs meant to remove any priate signals and whatnot. Work like a antivirus program, though not as well because then the movie would have been rather dull and short.

Is Matrix a dream, reality, or something else?
A HUGE virtual reality world.

The Matrix is more about perception than about anything else. The different levels of how Neo, Trinity, Morpheus, ect... they interact with the world based on their view of it. As much as the characters portray that they are open to the concepts, their ability is limited by what they know. (Ex. Neo and Morpheus fighting, Neo overcomes morpheus - however Morpheus doesn't try harder because he believes he cannot defeat Neo since he is the one)

Thats a little take on it I guess ;)

I've heard the movie described as a Christ analogy.
Neo is the Savior , the One who is prophesied to save them all.
The Matrix is the world, we are blinded by sin and each of us needs to be saved to see the world as it truly is
in the end, Neo dies and is resurrected...there were other parallelisms drawn, but i can't remember them all

To me "The Matrix" was a mind-blowing trip! I never really thought about the parallelism between the movie and the Bible though. What facinated me the most was the idea that us, human beings, could be harvested like plants by machines with A.I. The idea that we are as generic as any other thing could be valid though... It made me think that my character and personality is a direct result of the manner that I am "grown". Does that make any sense to you??:)
