I'll be seeing this today.

I just realized I haven't watched any 3D in theaters since I had one bad experience with it about 7~ years ago.

I imagine there are different kind of 3D. Fandango shows it's RealD 3D.

1. I hear 3D is only worth it if it was specifically filmed with 3D camera. Is The Martian filmed so?

2. Is RealD 3D worth it?

We already have a thread for this. Ask there.

Let me make this easier for you.

My take on 3D is that it's just a gimmick to make me pay more money for the same movie.

look in the thread already created for this movie. There's already some discussion about 3D/2D for this movie in that thread.

Saw it in 3D last night. Nothing is gained from the 3D. There are like 2 scenes in the whole movie that are more entertaining than I imagine they would be in 2D.

Movie overall - eh, it was alright. Book was better. Probably give it a 6.5/10

3D makes movies crappier. The glasses don't work that well and the polarization ruins the color.

I saw it on 3D afterall.

It's completely unnecessary. The novelty wears off in 10 mins, not only that you don't even it notice it anymore.

Also wearing the glasses makes you lose that 'big screen' feel in a theater. 3D feels like you're watching something playing ON your glasses, half an inch away from your face.

It's not worth it- at all.

And you lose clarity, crisp 2D visuals, & bright colors.
