How are they so good? I mean Jesus, De-loused in the Comatorium is nothing short of pure musical genius. That album has quickly risen the ranks of my favorite albums to the number 2 spot right behind OK Computer and Dark Side of the Moon, both tied for first place.

If you have no idea who The Mars Volta is I highly recomend that you check out their album.
You're welcome.
You can thank me later.

If you like those songs tweak, get the album. I bought it based off of those 2 songs alone, and have listened to the CD more times than probably any other.

Most of the people I let listen to the album are really turned off by the music. I guess it's just not "Pop" enough. But I will say it takes a while to get used to.

I am talking about the album. What two songs are you talking about?

I feel compelled to listen to it daily to get my Mars Volta fix.

Yup, I've noticed that too, I think they find it too chaotic, it really takes a few listens to see the order of the chaos.

yeap, but it's genius. Have you heard of Tomahawk? Mike Patton from Faith No More is the lead singer. It falls into the same style and is great music.

Tweak, I have a live Mars Volta DVD that I could send to you. They are one of those bands that I prefer to listen to live.

Wow, I'd like to see that.

I've had their latest album for a few months now. I love it!

Why cause your music has to be trendy? j/k ;)

I like the newest Sparta cd but it's not even on the same level musicly as TMV. It seems Sparta just wanted to play "radio hits".

and just for reference DsoTM is the best album of all time, and currently i'm addicted to Tool

You guys have to be kidding. Their televators song isn't too bad, from the ablum at least. But when I heard them live opening for A Perfect Circle, I was wondering how the hell they broke a record deal at all. All of thier songs sound identical, and they are friggen goofy on stage, and not entertaining-goffy. Just plain WTH are you doing on stage goofy. They are the reason I don't buy albums without downloading first.

You guys have no idea how funny I think this thread is. I saw Mars Volta live when they opened for A Perfect Circle in Denver, CO. I honestly wish I had been born deaf once they took the stage. It was so painful to watch that after several songs I went and stood out in the concession area until it was over. Obviously music is completely subjective, but IMHO these guys are truly awful.

they're an alright band, I don't see what all the hype is about but they are terrible live, I can attest to that as well.

Well if they played mainly the new CD, I could see how you think it sounds the same. The whole album is about one thing, someone they knew or that was in a band tried to commit suicide. He was in a coma for awhile and they wrote the album about what he "might" of beening thinking/feeling. What sucks is apperantly the guy got out of the coma only to shoot himself soon after :(

Yeah it was based on a guy they knew... IIRC "De-Loused" is about someone who is in a coma from morphine and at the end he can wake up be decides not too.. Check out their website for more info.

For anyone curious, I made a small sample of The Mar Volta. This is just a live recording of a concert so there should be no issues with copyright.
