#10- Riding in an open bed pickup truck

About 6 of us jumped into an open bed pickup truck because we needed a ride to school. This was in Fort Laurdedale. The driver was an ass. Swerving hard. Quick stiops and starts. Well this car comes out of nowhere and SLAMS into the car next to us. The car turns over and slides about 20 feet. If that was the truck that I was riding in, I wouldn't be here.

Just another Florida statistic. :coldsweat:

Moral of story, stay away from FL. Slightly harder to die else where.

You've never lived in SE Asia. Thailand has the 3rd highest road deaths int he world. People there don't wear helmets. Girls sit side saddle when a passanger on the scooter (no helmet). Buses flip over all the time. Bus drivers are driving with little to no sleep. Cars ignore lights.

Yeah, I remember sitting near the front on a bus in that part of the world, and the driver kept visibly starting to fall asleep. A (local resident) family-member of mine who was sitting next to me kept having to prod him to wake him up, hence we managed to get to the destination still alive.

Damn! If I go to Thailand I should take my bike helmet? And maybe buy some insurance...

Well, this was South Asia rather than South East, but I gather the deal is the same across the whole region.

I'd heard that it was kind of the "wild west" on the roads in places like that. People/vehicles converging on intersections and it's just everyone for themselves, rules be damned, all manner of vehicles, pedestrians, whatever.

One of the last roommates in my house (that I subsequently bought) was a guy who'd lived in Thailand and he wanted to get back. He eventually did move back. Got some word from him that he was supporting himself there teaching English. The students called him "professor!" This was over 20 years ago.

Heat exhaustion is probably another way to die. I know that's probably how I'd manage to die there. Either that or some kind of skin infection from a really bad sunburn.

The hole, just wide enough to fit a body, was filled with hydrogen sulfide and methane gas created from years of rotted vegetation, the Miami Herald reported. None of the four men wore masks or carried the air packs that could have likely saved their lives. Moreno descended into the hole without his air tank because he could not fit through the hole with it, according to Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay.

Rotted vegetation pumping out H2S(hydrogen sulfide) and methane.

It has been a fairly mild summer here with lots of rain. Meanwhile the Pacific northwest has endured heat much higher than here on the space coast. Where I live would rule completely if not for hurricanes and republicans. Winters are super nice weather, spring and fall are nice weather, summer is now better or at least no worse than most of the U.S. now. RIght now it is sunny 84f/29c with a nice breeze. I will hit the heavy bag here in little bit under my big oak tree. It is gorgeous just humid is all. But I am used to it so not a bother, and I enjoy a good sweat.

Surf is still up from Fred, so will hit this evening when the tide is right. Florida is awesome; there is a reason besides no state tax, that so many move here. Never gets really cold, rarely gets really hot here on the coast. Hurricanes are the big minus, and MAGA idiots that can't even help with a pandemic. Other than that, it's fucking paradise. I have lived here my whole life, but may move to the mountains to die. Barely ducked 2 dierect hits by cat4 plus hurricanes in the last 5yrs, and our luck is going to run out at some point.

I saw a joke on Reddit yesterday begging people to help out in the Global Warming situation. Their position was as ocean levels rise Floridians will be forced to move elsewhere and God forbid no one wants that. So, I am advocating we build a Florida wall to keep them out of the other states. :p This would be a good way to gid rid of them ... under water and all.

Oh come on now, Floridians would perish the moment we suspend their OnlyFans accounts. How else can they get their ho's to earn income for them kind of rednecks?

You're a Tampa girl?

Pics
East coast n00b. Tampa is west coast. And with a name like Butch, are you sure you want to see the pics? :p

And all those shark attacks are laughable by Aussie standards. Sutures, maybe some surgery to fix tendons or ligaments; just a good story to tell. And sometime it is far more likely bluefish than sharks. They are hardcore in a feeding frenzy. When someone gets nipped in the colder months, I lean toward them being the culprit. But the poor sharks are always maligned as the bad guy. I have surfed for over 40 years here, worse thing I've experienced is red tide and getting stung by man-o-war.

I know you came out of Florida’s womb and you love mommy Florida, but I must tell the truth. She’s been fucking lads and gals outside of her marriage and giving the free room and board. Ain’t much room or budget to feed you true natives. :p
Ain’t many of you guys to begin with. :p:p
