The manual says to fully charge it before use. Should I?

I just got a new iRiver mp3 player and I really want to just play around with it and load all my music on it.

Do I really need to charge it fully, like the manual says?

If it has nickel-cadmium batteries, yes. Charging them only partially may reduce their overall capacity.

If it has Ni-Mh or Li-Ion batteries, it probably doesn't matter as much. You may want to cycle the batteries a few times (charge to 100%, leave it playing until it dies, repeat a couple times) to get maximum performance.

When in doubt always follow the manual. And when things still don't look right after that then go to the troubleshooting section.

Hi, Rechargable batts self discharge over a period of a few months. Sitting on the shelf in a store may be long enough to completly or partially drain them . The maker just doesn't want you thinking the batts are bad, thus the warning. Try it. If it doesn't go or only runs a short time then charge it. Jim
