My books are over $400 this semester.
The books listed are the only ones in stock right now. I still have three lab manuals and senior design project materials to buy.

Haven't actually bought them yet. Those prices are the bookstore where my girlfriend works, so I can get a little discount there. Plus I get a discount for being a university employee.

Yup, books are very expensive. I'm glad that my company is paying for my tuition and books for my masters degree.🙂

I know how you feel....I've been lucky the last few semsters and have been using other people's books after they were through with the classes. I have to buy 2 books this semester and they're going to be around $100 total if I can buy one from a friend.... 😛 *crosses fingers*

I wouldn't mind paying the prices if some of the funds went towards the university, but Purdue does not have its own book store. Instead there is Follets and one other private store.

The only problem I run into is that several of the books I use are university specific and written by the professor of the class. We have a very small major and are one of the top Food Science programs in the nation.

I'm at $400 now and still need one more plus a laboratory kit for $150. These are even all used except one. 🙁

Is it strange that I have already started saving with my future children in mind?

I pay more than that each quarter sometimes. Fall quater 2002 I spent nearly 700 on books + brand new TI 92 plus calculator.

This quarter I dint have to buy a book at all. Make friends! They'll either let you borrow a textbook or sell you the book for dirt cheap of a class they already took.

For some reason the international versions of books are much, much cheaper than the US versions. My friend bought these in Taiwan (and they have legitimate publishers):

Microelectronics: An Integrated Approach
US: $110
Intl: ~$24

Signal Processing & Linear Systems
US: $101
Intl: ~$28

The versions are exactly the same. Of course, it's illegal to import the international versions into the US.

Making friends really does not help as everyone in my major keeps their books or uses them for other classes. Plus I already know everyone in my major. All of the classes I am taking are only offered in the semesters I take them. The only books I do by are the ones I know I will use and ones that I will keep for future reference.

The book contains information about the different types of grapes, processes, history, etc.
