Try to take a similar picture of your laptop and a reflective surface.

Exactly. The dead give away is the hand which is what makes it easy to pick out.

Also another dead give away is the size of the reflection is (visually) nearly exactly the same size as the original that sits on the table. This isn't going to happen, it should be slightly skewed.

The only thing that would make sense to me would be that the reflective surface is tilted up (the part closest to the camera), but then the case can't sit flat or you need 2 surfaces.

So ultimately the way they did the image, the image on the Ipad would have to go directly through the keyboard.

The reflection in the image seems fine to me.

I just put my laptop on a glass table top, arranged like the ipad+keyboard in the photo. I turned off the lights and held the screen like the hand in the photo too, and the reflection i see on the table looks exactly like the one in the image. The only thing that seems off is that the reflection in the photo is too clear visible. I had to turn lights off to get similar result, but who knows, maybe their table top is super-shiny?

What exactly is supposed to be wrong with the photo? Are you guys saying you aren't supposed to be able to see any of the screen at all in the reflection? If so please draw me a picture or take a picture of what it "should" look like.

EDIT: NM. It does kind of look fake. The perspective of the reflection is off. Do a "ray trace" from camera lens to finger in the reflection, bounce it from there to the finger on the ipad. It seems like the ray should land closer to the edge of the ipad (the one closest to the camera). I dunno. Putting my phone down on the glass surface I get a reflection where the reflection size is about the same as the phone. Too lazy to take the laptop back out. But I admit that the geometry may indicate it is fake.

You can also take a look where index and thumb in the hand reflection are supposedly "holding" the reflected Ipod for more fantastic optical illusions. Lots of magic in this pic.

I'm slowly wondering if maybe it is right due to people saying otherwise, but still, with the angle it is taken at, look at it this way...

If you set the camera down on the table, all you would see is the side of the case and the Ipad...not the reflection on the table because of the angle the camera is sitting.

As you pull the camera off the table but still point it at the Ipad, you'll start to see an image on the table, but it wont be the same size as whats on the table until you hit a certain angle. Then as you keep going you get a top view and the reflection on the table would slowly disappear once you are directly over the top.

The angle this picture is taken doesn't really match the "50 50" view you see here. At least it doesn't look that way.

I don't think anyone has given a good explanation of why it's fake though. "go through" the keyboard doesn't make sense. Impossible angles, are probably a better description. Still leaning towards it being real.

Look at the hand in both.

The way you can see through the gaps in the hand are like a straight shot, but clearly the picture is taken at an angle.

EDIT:

Actually it might just be the shadows that make it look funny. Its hard to tell if this is real or not.

I just tried this on a mirror I have here and you can come pretty close to replicating the image, but its hard to tell.
