Here's a comedy of errors for you guys:

Stripper bodyguard claims 4 Brookline cops beat him up

Four Brookline cops have been put on [paid] administrative leave as the department investigates claims by a stripper’s hired guard that he was severely beaten by intoxicated off-duty officers early Sunday morning.

Police did not release the names of the officers involved or or say why they were removed from duty. The department’s Office of Professional Responsibility is investigating the claims.

The guard’s lawyer, John Saliba, said his client suffered a fractured eye socket, broken nose and multiple facial cuts in the incident.

Saliba said the driver, Bob Sonia, works for Shamrock Entertainment, an agency that has strippers on call for parties day and night. Saliba said a caller requested the dancer for a bachelor party on Beacon Street in Brookline.

Saliba said when the dancer arrived about 4 a.m. Sunday, Sonia escorted her to a basement apartment. Inside, he said, they encountered four men, who told the dancer they were no longer interested in seeing a show.

“They said ‘Oh, we changed our minds,’ ” Saliba said. “We don’t want to do it anymore.”

Sonia tried to collect the fee, and the dancer asked for gas money, but Saliba said the men refused both requests.

“Then they said, ‘Look we didn’t want to play this card, but we’re all cops, so get outta here,’ ” Saliba said. “They left and crossed the street. The exotic dancer was driving. He sees one of the inebriated persons with an object close to the trunk. Mr. Sonia got out of the car. At that point there was a brutal, savage and vicious beating.”

Sonia claims he was beaten and kicked in the face until uniformed police were called, Saliba said. He said those officers handcuffed Sonia and left him on the ground while the group of on-duty and off-duty officers spoke at some distance away. Saliba said at some point an ambulance arrived Sonia was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Saliba said Sonia will need plastic surgery.

I LOVE IT. Can you imagine four thugs being given a paid vacation for assault and battery pending "investigation?" What's even more disturbing is that the uniformed police handcuffed a gang-beatdown victim after they arrived.

I'm sure that they're all just a few bad apples.

I saw this on the news yesterday. I try and withhold judgment until a trial but the police department won't even release the names of the cops involved or any other information so that might never happen.

Personally I think the stripper might be a tranny and thats what started it lol.

Only one side of the story so far. Hope they get to the truth and justice is served.

It's called innocent until proven guilty, maybe you're familiar with the concept?

Not when cops are involved. Cops are always guilty, and they always lie to cover up the fact that they are all bloodthirsty thugs with guns, tazers, and badges. Everyone knows this.

This. The suspension is no different than what would happen with any other public employee pending the outcome of a trial.

Yeah, but only here on AT(and other places angst filled kiddies find to rage about cops).

There is no greater crime than abuse of power but one, ignoring abuse of power. White wash it baby, com'on CsG it's your SOP.

Not to defend the off duty cops, or to pretend that I know what actually transpired, but Sonia was a complete idiot to get out of the car, confront the cops. No positive outcome was possible, and discretion is always the better part of valor.

Well, unless his intention in doing so was to take a beating so as to collect from a lawsuit down the road. Stranger things have happened.

Can you think of a valid reason 4 off duty cops beat a guy who was not charged with a crime?

Now, are you sure he didn't get out of the car and start attacking them? What? You're not because the story was only his side? No way.

Then he would be charged with a crime. This isn't complicated.
That would be likely, but there could be complications. I can imagine many legitimate self defense scenarios where even with four witnesses it could be difficult to produce a convincing case.

Really is that how it works? Lets take the same situation but instead of 4 OFF DUTY cops its me and 3 friends. What do you think would happen?

The cops arrive and one person is badly beaten and is saying we did it. We are all arrested, charged with assault, battery and probably other things.

Then we sit in jail until we go in front of a judge for bond. Hopefully we have a lawyer at this time or we might end up sitting in jail for a while possibly until trial. If were lucky we are released on bond after paying a few thousand to a lawyer and some more to a bondsman. Then you wait, and wait and wait, until everything is resolved one way or another. By this point you probably spent 10k on legal fees and even more if you end up in trial.

So yea, we are all innocent until proven guilty.

For everyone saying how all cops are bad, instead of moaning about how bad they are maybe you should join the police force and show people and other cops how a cop is actually supposed to act since you obviously would be the paradigm of cops. Unless your just ranting of course.

In regards to the current situation we've only heard one side, but my advice is always carry around a recorder of some sort. Everyone knows this.

Unless the guy was armed or on serious drugs (and I don't see any mention of that), I can't think of any reason why four cops couldn't take down a single guy without beating on his FACE. They did eventually use a set of handcuffs.

Innocent until proven guilty, but it doesn't look good for them.

It also begs the question of why the guy who got beat up is the one who was arrested, and the beaters were not.

"A Brookline police spokesman, Lt. Philip Harrington, refused to discuss details of the investigation or whether Sonia was charged before he was handcuffed.

According to Saliba, Sonia was not arrested but was read his Miranda rights while being treated at Beth Israel Hospital for broken bones and other injuries."

He wasn't even arrested. If he had done something warranting that kind of treatment he would have been. The department is not only not releasing the names of the officers but also the 911 calls & police report.

This was my OP. I'm glad that the "police can do no wrong" apologists showed up post-haste, cocks in hand, claiming that I'm full of angst and live with my parents.

As always, there are two sides to a story. I hope the "off doodie" police stories are a real nail-biter, because they "appear" to seriously lack judgment and self-control. There were only two sober witnesses at the incident, btw.
