Early Access Survival game I picked up on the steam sale. I must say this one is a surprising Gem. I am hooked.

No Zombies, No NPC's, no other players. It is you vs the environment and ...wolves. Lots of wolves.

Made it 7 days before I died in the cold dark trying to fish. Died from fatigue but starvation was close.

Great stuff.

Anyone else giving this a rip?

Not going to lie, I found it extremely boring. Gathered enough supplies to literally last days within the first few minutes of playing. I explored the whole lake map and could not find a gun. The wolves were just getting in the way pretty much. Basically, I figured out the whole game within the first hour and found no replay value there.

Initially, I found the game to be exciting and new. The art style is fantastic. The gameplay is fun. Exploring the map and finding new things was really fun.

However, after playing it just one day, I realized that there's not much else to do besides collect clothing to be used to repair the ones you're wearing and finding food. The game really needs some depth.

Yeah, it is an alpha.

Adding story mode will help I am sure. Cause to me it feels like a change of pace. Single player lonely depressing story. I mean that in a good way :)

I haven't bought the game but I've been watching a fantastic LP of it by SplatterCatGaming and it's a short game.

Otherwise it's pretty great.

But it's short.

I think it'd be more interesting if:
a) there were less wolves
b) you didn't starve to death so fast
c) you could craft
d) the map were procedurally generated and it were bigger
e) there were larger and more buildings
f) there were other survivors

:EDIT:
I'm currently playing Dead State and it has all of those points.
Except it's a totally different kind of game, despite also being totally awesome.

Just picked this up yesterday since it was half off.

I'm having fun with it.
There are challenge modes now; one where you have 7 days to trek across several maps to get a flare gun and shoot it off at a rescue zone, and another with no time limit, but you have to survive a bear attack and then get to a cabin with a gun two maps over before the bear tracks you down to finish the job.

Almost beat the bear one, but a wolf got me a few hundred yards from the gun cabin because it suddenly decided a flare wasn't very scary when being waved around by an exhausted, freshly mauled human.

I'll need to know the maps better before I have a shot at the time trial one.

I can't play shooting games. It's the biggest possible disadvantage of a gamer. So, I think this game is perfect for me. But I've played Witcher and I didn't like it a bit. So, maybe I'm not going to like at either. Maybe I'm not a gamer :(
But I will give it a try (I guess)

I remember methodically staying at each house as long as possible a few months ago on this game, and then getting to decent sized village next to a lake. Then holding up in the central gas station while I picked all of the other cabins of everything useful, and when I would leave the gas station I would leave literally everything at that site including bandages. So after cleaning out a house of everything, I left and was on my way back to my home base when I got jumped by a wolf. I eventually beat him off of me, I basically bleed out around 6 feet away from where I left all of my medical supplies. This caused me to rage uninstall the game. 10/10

First time I found a rifle a bear started coming after me; I got ready, aimed carefully, waited till he got close so I wouldn't miss, lined up a head shot...
*click*

I forgot to load the rifle! I frantically tried to get away as I tried to load the gun; got it loaded and aimed again, but too late. Got mauled. still alive, I picked the gun back up and shot the bear dead, but then bled out soon after.

Is it worth the $10? I was thinking of picking it up last night.

Ughhh no longer $10.....

I think I'm getting my $10 worth. $15 would be borderline. $20 is a bit much for what it is now; maybe with story mode and a few other finishing touches it's worth $20

They promised a story mode a long time ago. Still no story mode. I feel like they abandoned this game.

i picked this up after agonizing over how to spend $20 i'd allotted myself for the month for gaming...i sent back Thea and Rust. Keeping this one i think. Very intense and pretty huge, played for under 2 hours explored 3% of 1 map and survived 60 something hours.

I don't think they've abandoned development, there are still dev posts regularly it seems. This is a (big) problem with early access though: "hey, we're making money let's relax" attitude leads to them not caring about developing the game further. Seen the complaint many times on Steam - "you've been in EA forever!!"

Well it looked interesting, and I'm into survival/crafting type games but I wanted something different from 7DTD. Thought about picking it up at $10 but I'll wait awhile and keep an eye on it for further development.

It's a lonely experience - no other humanoids except those half buried and frozen in the snow. The need to eat, drink, sleep and protect yourself from the cold is constant. I am certainly enjoying it as i said but i could offer two complaints: you have to eat TOO much imo, should be able to survive (albeit barely) on 1000 calories a day, even working. I also don't like that doing work like tearing down a bench or running doesn't keep you warm...if it burns calories it should produce heat and protect against the cold somewhat.

At the risk of further dooming this thread i'd like to add i'm still playing and have survived 8 days in my current sandbox - pleasant valley on Voyageur. 4 close encounters with wolves but no attacks yet, the flares have done the trick so far...the last time the wolf slowly followed me as i backed towards a cabin waving the flare at it.

I have almost died from exhaustion once, got a 4 hour fire going in a cave, ate, drank and pulled out my sleeping bag with 5% left.

Recently found some ammo to go with my rifle and have killed 1 rabbit and injured a deer but it was getting dark so I hope to track it down "tomorrow".
