the NHS is a very great thing for most brits, of course they are very proud to have it, and they happen to have NHS staff and doctors from a hospital doing that part.

Alright. I know when I think of national pride among the last things I'd consider is "healthcare" no matter how good it is. Kinda like the US showing off the interstate highway system. But whatever, it was well-performed and the fact that they used real doctors and nurses was cool.

I thought Matt Lauer and Meredith Viera are the ones hosting?

Whoever it was, they were just speechless at the creepy doll. And the fact that they have to EXPLAIN everything for people to understand wtf is going on. Even the hosts have no damn clue.

opening was ok, then hit major snoore after bond, wheeling around hosiptal beds, really?

I thought the dream sequence was pretty cool, I just didn't appreciate the "rah rah national healthcare!" part. The sitcom episode/musical they're doing now is... kinda lame so far.

What the hell is going on, i turned the channel for one moment and they show teenage girls whoring themself out.

Apparently they're celebrating several decades of British music and... social media? There's also supposed to be a romance plot. I'm hoping for Def Leppard in a few minutes.

To be fair the NHS was formed just after WWII which was obviously a very trying and hard time for the british people. When it came around it really helped many of the people coming back from the war and such. It is seen as a bright spot in a dark time for the UK, at least in my opinion.

OK, when does the Luftwaffe commence its bombing run over the stadium?

J/K... mostly 😉

Meh, they swooped right over that, surprising considering Britain's role in the war. They payed tribute to WWI though in the industrial era, maybe WWII was supposed to be included with that? *shrug*

We're already in the 80s.

The tribute was to all wars I think.

THEIR CEREMONY IS TOTALLY UNIMAGINATIVE. EVERYTIME I GLANCE BACK AT THE TV, THEY'RE DOING THE SAME BROADWAY DANCING CRAP.

Holy Christ it's terrible. Add some dimension to it.

They just showed of Tim Berners-Lee, one of the primary inventors of the modern internet (saying he invented the internet is like saying Ford invented the automobile). That was cool, if short. At least he's someone worth showing off.

Just to backtrack a bit, I thought it was pretty cool that Mike Oldfield performed, as Tubular Bells is one of my favorite albums 🙂

I watched this, thought it was ok, then watched the Beijing opening for reference. Shouldn't have.

China's had a lot more nationalism and showmanship. It was designed to show off China to the world (especially considering it was their first time hosting), and was tailored for mass consumption. The UK show is incorporating a lot of stuff most non-Brits wouldn't understand.
