The local Nissan dealership is having a 1% over invoice sale. *EDIT* Bought a Sentra XE

Any way to find out what their invoice is without having to simply take their word for what it is?

******************EDIT********************EDIT****************************EDIT*********************

Ended up buying a Sentra XE. According to carpoint.com the invoice for the car w/ the options I got is $13927. Add another 1% and you get $14066. Guess what I paid for the car...yep, $14066. 🙂 I know it's not a great price...and I'm not jumping for joy like Skoorb and his Maxima...but I'm satisfied.

Oh yeah, I had applied for financing at lendingtree.com to see who would give me the cheapest financing. After I drove the car home, I got a call from lendingtree. The lady said the cheapest she could get me was 5.9% from some bank out west. Nissan gave me 2.9% when I bought the car earlier in the day. 😉

Invoice isn't the same as cost. He said 1% over invoice.

The sites mentioned like Edmunds.com will give you an idea, but there are some things they don't include, like advertising charges.

Actually, a dealership can sell a car at cost and still make money. There are kickbacks the dealer receives for various things.

The kickback will not cover up to the unit break price. There is fix cost overhead when running a lot.

The thing is what invoice are they talking about???

If i am correct, i believe colorado made the "% over invoice" ads illegal.

My mom got her 1999.5 Infiniti I30 Limited for $23,900 brand new. At the time that was about $2000 - $3000 below invoice I believe. They were trying to clear them out because they had a crappy year.

This is where I'd start, esp with the last and first site mentioned.

1% over invoice, I think they're BS'ing.

What year/make/model/trim/transmission car are you looking at?

Nissan Sentra 4dr Sedan XE

According to carpoint.com the invoice for this car is about $13,900 and there's a $750 rebate from Nissan that I assume goes to the dealership...so I submitted an offer of $12,500 and we'll go from there.

The rebate is for students and the recently graduated. Ended up buy a Sentra XE. See 1st post for details.

When I was looking for an affordable new car in 2000, I was first considering the Sentra XE. Turns out they don't make too many of these, and even the GXEs are not very popular compared to Altimas. I was close to buying an Altima but the Nissan dealers I visited were fvcking assholes. I ended up with an Accord SE, which I think is the right decision (obviously not as cheap).

I got a lousy finance rate, but that was subsequently taken care of.

What year?
Which transmission?

Pics?

It's a 2003, auto, CD, air, plus some misc stuff. I'll get a pic up as soon as I get things straightened out over at Paulson's site. 🙂

Hm... what do you think about the Honda dealers that were selling their 2002 Accords for over $4000 off MSRP? That's about betwen $1500-2000 below invoice. Is it really worth it to "lose" so much money on these 2002 models just for the sake of clearance?

Ummm, I'm pretty sure. Let me check the contract a minute. Let's see...that's a 2. That's a period. That's a 9. And there's a % sign. Yep, 2.9%! 😉
