Hey, just read this in a brazilian newspaper my mom sent me from last week (she occasionally sends me lil package with pics, newspapers and other cool random stuff) ok so most ppl aren't familar with this living in either US or Canada but some fscked sh1t goes down in 3rd world countries...

For a couple years now there's been random kidnappings on the street and I don't mean like what its like in the states for instance, i mean like in the same city, like dozens of people per day like at traffic lights and stuff.
So the crooks are gettin more creative lately, I'm retyping this short article in portuguese:

"...the last victim was a 15 year old boy. He was walking homw one night when he heard a baby crying inside an empty construction site. As he walked over to see what was going on he was hit on the head with a brick and fainted. He woke up a couple hours later in the trunk of a moving vehicle. The vehicle came to a stop inside a warehouse and a cloth soaked with chloroform was placed over his nose and mouth, making him pass out again. The kidnappers called the boys family and demanded a certain ransom ammount (not revealed). A couple hours later the ammount was paid and the kidnappers drove by his house and threw the gagged and tied up boy out of the moving car onto the sidewalk.
His family found a strange scar on the boys stomach and took him to an all-hours hospital to investigate. Inside the boys stomach they found a laminated piece of paper with the following message scrawled on it: "Your money can save your childs life, but can't spare him from his imminent death." After a barrage of examinations, they found out the boy was infected with HIV. He vaguely remembered sharp stings on his arms, in the exact region where a small needle mark was found.
There have been 12 cases in the past 2 weeks..."

Just sick. I can't even find words to describe the kind of people that would actually do this to someone.
Thought I should share it.

Damn that's messed up. Well there are countries where they kidnap kids, cut off their arms or legs or both, and make em beg on the street. Either that or throw acid on their face.

I have a problem with this. It takes a bear minimum of three weeks, and an average of two months to test positive for HIV after infection. NO WAY will he test positive after just a few days or even a week of infection.

two points... why would they cut him open and put the note inside of him, why not just leave it on him, tell him, or write it ON him somewhere.
Also, how does a scar form in such a short amount of time?

yeah dont make any sense.,

if they start doing that then people will stop paying the ransom. whats the point? if they are going to die from aids why waste the money on getting them back? it seems to me they are shootin themselves in the foot with this.

I didn't quite have to finish the first post to realize this is an urban legend. It reads like one in far too many ways. Reminds me of the person who sleeps with somebody on vacation and gets a letter on the way back that they now have AIDS.

There is an underlying theme on most urban legends. I can't quite put my finger on it but I'm gettnig good at reading stories like this and calling them out immediately :) I won't deny kidnappings, but I bet you this isn't happening.

Oh and there was one about people who had needles stuck to handles when you fill your gas and they give you aids.

im somewhat skeptical myself, but stuff like this DOES actually happen minus the HIV and note inside stomach...

I'm not arguing that. Many Central and South American countries are rife with kidnappings. Though most kidnap victims are generally people with money or foreigners.

It screams of Urban legend
