The lie that is Dick Cheney: His allegations on CIA torture memos false

Anyone remember Dickhead Chee-nee in that monotone low pitched voice, insisting the CIA release memos that would prove torture worked? Well it was a big fat lie. No surprise there since he spends most of his time trying to rewrite history, popping up like a troll about once a month.

A crucial CIA memo that has been cited by former Vice President Dick Cheney and other former Bush administration officials as justifying the effectiveness of waterboarding contained “plainly inaccurate information” that undermined its conclusions, according to Justice Department investigators.

Here sir, let me ask you a question. Did you, or did you not bomb the building.
No.
Okay folks, we're done.

It works wonders. :awe:

That's idiotic. It's not the alternative to the torture you apparently support as an immoral person.

So what is the alternative? Since your ways can get answers much faster. Plus, I mean, pouring water on someone is just absolutely horrible!
No but simulated drowning is which is exactly what Water Boarding is.

So, does water boarding kill the terrorist?
No?
Did the terrorist kill people?
Yes.
Then we should be able to do whatever the hell we want to squeeze information out of him.
So you'd be ok with things like skinning the terrorist alive to get info out of him?

That, plus cutting off his fingers one by one, pouring salt in his wounds, subjecting him to boiling water, etc.

You are a disgrace to this country. Apparently, following the law doesn't hold much weight in your eyes, does it?

Stalin and Beria would be so proud of you.

He's got to be trolling...even Cheney is not that blood-thirsty, cruel and stupid.

Ok Tristicus, this question is for you and you alone to answer.

And here is the question. Somehow, by whatever twist of fate, you are the one the CIA suspects, and they ask you, did you do it, and you say no.

So they start in on you, pouring water in your face, then graduating to waterboarding, and
whatever torture required to change that no answer to a yes. In other words, innocent or guilty, torture anyone enough, and they will admit to anything to make the pain stop.

And they will incriminate anyone else in the process, regardless if its true or false.

Now answer, Tristicus, if it were you they were torturing, what would you do?

The funniest thing about Tristicus is that he apparantly didn't read the article. Since he doesn't seem to realize that the article expressly states that while being tortued one suspect lied and told his torturers what they wanted to hear. While the dirty bomber was caught on information gained from traditional, non-torture interrogation techniques.

Basically people like Tristicus don't want real interrogation techniques to work, because they're not cruel enough. Those people feel that terrorists kill and do horrible acts, so we must be horrible to them in return. Terrorism isn't so much about killing people as it is about changing mindsets. Terrorism has done its job to people like you Tristicus, and you've become the evil bastard that they intended to make you. You're of the same mentality as them, like they were trying to make you.

Can someone explain to me why they haven't released the memo if it does in fact prove Cheney to be wrong??

"Justice department lawyers report" is not the same as reading the memo for yourself.

The problem is earlier in his thought process. He assumes the person he is questioning is guilty. He is not torturing for information, he is torturing for a confession. However, if we already know he is guilty, we really don't need the confession, if we don't know he is guilty we need the person to tell the truth. The problem is not that torture will not "make a person talk", but that it will make an innocent person lie. The difference between an innocent man lying and a guilty man's truth are so hard to distinguish making any information gathered from torture almost completely worthless.

Terrorists Win!

Torture works, just ask U.S. veterans how much vital information they gave to their Vietnamese captors. Or how many witches the Church found!

Torture is useless for getting information, and shouldn't be used in interrogations, now if they are found guilty, confess or get caught in the act, and their actions are beyond question I have no problem with cruel and unusual punishment for terrorist.

so the memo lied, and cheney relied on it? that doesn't necessarily make cheney a liar.

Your first mistake is assuming that everyone getting waterboarded is a terrorist and killed people.

Any interrigator will tell you that information obtained using torture is useless anyways as people will tell you whatever you want to hear to get you to stop.

As one put it in an interview I heard, "Give me 15 minutes with Mother Theresa and I can get her to confess to every murder in the last 15 years. That doesn't mean I solved any crimes though."
