The lens on my Canon 800IS is permanently stuck. What can I do?

Hello,

I had my Canon 800IS out in shooting mode when it took the slightest of bumps. The camera itself never even left my hand. Problem is, now the lens is completely stuck and will not go back in. The shooting modes are blurry and if I zoom in all the way I get a weird beeping noise and it says "Lens error" and it turns off.

I would try to contact Canon but I am traveling in the Middle East. Is there anything I can do?

Thanks much.

Check Canon's webpages to see if maybe there's a FAQ or something...maybe this is a common problem and there's a fix for it? Google on the problem.

Heck, I'd say bump it again. 😛 It's already busted...

And, also check Canon's service centers in the area you are travelling in. If you are in or near a principle city, chances are a local tech can fix it. Sounds like you knocked the lens out of its correct track.

Hi, I also used to have some problems with my A620 but recently I found a great tech support site that helped me deal with these kind of problems.
They also have free live chat support.
Here is the page for Canon 800 IS Support

Good luck

Ha, ha! I don't do Hebrew either - but you are in perhaps the best place for such service. Here is (in English) a listing to try:

Canon Israel

Thanks for the link, but I tried that site earlier. The number goes unanswered and their URL is the one I linked above. sigh.

My camera lens got stuck on one hot day when I was rock climbing and bumped it.
Tried for days to get it to open.

Finally got mad and stuck it in the fridge, figured the cold air might contract something.
And it did.
Took it out of the fridge and hit the on button and the lens opened up.

Don't know if I was lucky or what, cause it hasn't got stuck since.

Home Remedies FTW! Give it a try...hell, it works with hard drives most of the time!!!
