Is it true that to prevent the cracking of windows XP, that microsoft distributed a crack out onto the net themselves that is fake crack and just denies the install of windows XP? Also, if you want to go about installing windows XP on two computers, does that mean that you have to buy two copies of windows XP? through registration or whatever?

Just curious.

This thing has been cracked long before it came out... it's all over Morpheus even...people floating around with corporate editions (which don't need the activation) and whatnot...and yes you have to buy XPs if you have two computers. Isn't that the way it's always been?...LOL...does that mean you haven't been doing that? GASP! Yah I know it sucks... but hey its Microsoft.

That's odd that is was cracked already. That's basically the big deal with win XP, that's really all I've heard about it, about how it is piracy safe.

Not odd at all. If you go to southeast asia... like Hong Kong or whatever...you'll find it all over the place. I went to the Philippines for a vacation 2 years ago...OMG...every freakin program you can think of...was there for $1. W2k, WinMe, NT, Photoshop, even Dreamweaver which cost so freakin much over here... its things like these that piss Microsoft off and come up with ideas like the WinXP activation which then becomes a hassle for us and the rest of the world. The thing is, if there was no piracy in those countries, no one would buy anything since they can't afford $200 OSs or $50 programs. If you've been wandering around the forums... sooooooooooo many people had XP running before it came out last week. Some of them did get it legally... and some didn't...i personally don't think anything is piracy safe unless you go over the line and start invading privacy.

Yeah, but many of the non-legal versions of XP weren't full versions, they where Beta versions. So That doesn't prove anything about how secure XP is.

XP Corporate Final has been on Usenet and IRC for more than a month.

Corporate requires no activation.

HPKeeper, you have no idea what you are talking about. The full version of Windows XP Pro (Corporate) has been out since mid to early September.....I imagine the entire world has it by now.

Anyone that wants it certainly has it. Heck, it's only about 550 megs, even people on dial-up modems could have downloaded the full Corporate edition 100 times over by now. Personally, I think people that wouldn't normally pirate software are going to steal WinXP just because of that stupid activation system, just to shove it in M$'s face.

Yep, I've been running WinXP Pro corporate for about 2 months... :D

You could even get the cracked BETA versions on IRC 3-4 days before people could download it from Microsoft. The registration thing is just to stop Joe Bloe from passing the CD to his neighbor, nothing more...

Even if the Beta had a trial period that was cracked as well. Everything is cracked. If you install someone else's XP on yours...it will give you a trial period to register and activate and tell Microsoft why their product is on two computers... well there's a crack for that too so you don't have to go call them. The final version has been floating around for awhile already... copies during Microsoft conventions and whatnot... and who else would go to Microsoft conventions but 'programming literate' ahem...people. Geez I know people who had WinME at least 3 months before it was released to the market. You don't even have to go to usenet or mirc to dl these things... there are people out there who would endure endless pages of porno advertisements to get the damn thing downloaded.

hah "endless pages of porno advertisements"

who in their right mind looks for warez on the web (i.e. websites)???

even if it is THERE, it must be a REALLY long process of porn ads and wading through links to actually find it.

Final Corporate edition was out exactly 2 months ago today. Many people simply pirated it just because they wanted to screw MS because they felt that the activation system was an invasion, and it is. Personally I could have gotten it but didn't, I'm perfectly happy with Windows2000.

Like I said, there are people out there who would do this because they don't have access to mirc or usenet. :) But who would need to do that?... go do a search on Morpheus for Windows XP... there it is... all you need to do is leave your computer on and burn the ISO image after its done. Everything can be and will be cracked sooner or later.
