Took wife out to supper last night for her birthday, got seated under a HVAC vent & froze immediately (I grew up in the Dakotas & really tolerate cold well, but I was shivering), got served chips, had to beg for salsa after a 5 minute wait, got served, had to beg for silverware after a 5 minute wait, got to my paper thin T-bone that tasted like jerky & found out it was freaking colder than the room we were in, asked to have it fixed, they brought my plate back after they'd microwaved everything (including the salad & steak sauce)...

Went ballistic @ that point, got moved to a table without A/C, got a new steak & the meals free after I was done with the manager:disgust:

(I'm pretty sure they peed in the chowder too:D)

When was the last time you got a free/discounted meal?

After such an experience, why remain in the dump? Forget the freebie. Up and leave without paying and move on to another establishment.

If I get horrible service, and it's from a place I don't usually frequent, I just up and leave and never come back.

Luckily I've never had service terrible enough to warrant getting a free meal.

When we went to eat with the Skoorbs at The Olive Garden, MrsSkoorb found a bug in her food and the manager knocked the price of that meal off their ticket but they still had to pay for Skoorb's.

I went to some Cajun place in Vestavia Hills the other day, and had oysters as an appetizer. I am a huge oyster fan, but these tasted like ass and were obviously not fresh. I told the waitress and she had the manager take them off my ticket. I was nice about it and so in return she was nice as well. The rest of my food was decent.

I was hungry & wife was 1/2 way through her meal & it was late, etc, etc...

It was Plato Loco in Cedar Hill. We've been there & had great service before.

Last year I took my Mom to lunch at a Cracker Barrel. They're okay for franchised "home style" food, but the service is variable, and in the end it's still fast food of course.

In spite of the place being very slow at the time with plenty of available seating, and plenty of employees idling around, we were seated at a table not quite clean and with a chunk of food still on it. I have a very low tolerance for poor sanitation in restaurants. I didn't make anything much out of it while with Mom, but I left a complaint at their website.

A couple of days later an assistant manager from that restaurant (two counties away from me mind you!) showed up at my house with an apology, a complimentary gift pass for two, and a gift box including a Cracker Barrel frying pan and some foods.

Well one time from Bennigans I got a steak that smelt and tasted like mop water. They just chop it up a bit, reheated it and brought it back.

They obviously didnt think I was going to pay for that did they? They said I didnt have to.

Was eating at Johnny Carino's Country Italian for my birthday a year or so ago.

After we made our order (4 dinners and an appetizer), we waited for almost an hour for the appetizer. In truth, we barely noticed because of the bellini pitchers that we were drinking. Then, the waiter stopped by and said that they accidently delivered our dinners to another table and that the appetizer somehow was never made, so he said that everything would be on the house.
The bill came out to over $100 dollars for four of us. We wanted dessert, but didn't want to make it look like we were going nuts because it was all free, so we asked the waiter to bring us the bill and we would pay for dessert. He said not to worry, that it was all on the house.

So, everything was comped. :D
