This thread is for the guys that used to build and upgrade pcs whenever a new cpu/gpu made appearance and spent all their time overclocking and benchmarking, but now have stopped because of family, job, lack of time or money. So whats the specs of the last one you built.

Mine is an I7 950 running at 4.2 Ghz, 8GB Ram, MSI 670, aircooled with Venomous-X Cooler, 800W Seasonic, Asus Sabertooth Motherboard

The one in my sig.....It's almost 3 years old now. only things I've changed are the vid card, (upgraded from a 580GTX), added the H80i and the Dell.

I'm really itchin to build a new rig but there hasn't been any procs released that would warrant me doing so. I must say I'm really impressed with how these Sandy bridge have held up.

I haven't stopped, but with buying a house and starting a family comes a certain shift in priorities. I only build a new machine every five years or so.

My current one is relatively recent as it happens.

AsRock Z87-Pro3
Intel 3570K
Sapphire HD7950
8GB DDR3
Corsair HX650
Fractal Design Define R4
Scythe Mugen 3

My current rig about 3 years ago. The only new things are the 2 EVGA GTX 760 2GB SLI. My Samsung Syncmaster 2253BW 1680x1050 at 67Htz is 7 years old now and looks as good as it did when I first got it. These Sandy Bridge CPUs are incredible. They're still very viable even tomorrow!

Will still probably build more computers. I am an empty nester now. I found if I just make a plan and save say $25 -$50 every time I get paid I can still afford a fairly decent computer.

Cooler Master Elite 130 (120 might be better)
Gigabyte Z87N WIFI REV 2.0 with 802.11ac
Intel Haswell 4430 i3
GSkill 8 Gig RAM
Hard Drive Whatever is on sale.
Logitek Wireless keyboard K400

I suggest when you order a Hard Drive that you order it as a single Item and ship faster. It tends to get better packing and treatment that way.

I did not really like the Case I purchased. I cant stand the drive mounts in that case. It makes it harder to route cables if the drives are not right next to each other.

My newest one is:

Core i7-4770K
Corsair H100i
EVGA Z87 FTW
16GB DDR3-2400Mhz (good for video editing)
1TB Western Digital Black + Blue (got the blue free is bought 1TB Black)
250GB Samsung 840EVO
2x EVGA GTX780
Fractal Design R4
Corsair 860W PSU

Hopefully this will last for 3-4 years.

Last PC I built

Core2Duo E8400 Wolfdale
Gigabyte EP45-UD3R
6gb ram (dual channel, 2x1gb 2x2gb)
nVidia GeForce GTX460GC 768

It was my main for several years, then I switched to laptops and it became my gaming desktop. Now I have an Ultrabook that can handle medium gaming @ 1080p, it's not even plugged in.

The last PC I built is the only PC I built. I built it in summer of 2013.

CPU - Intel Core i5 4670k
RAM - G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series (2x 4GB)
Motherboard - MSI Z87-GD65 GAMING
Video Card - 2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti
Storage - 120GB Samsung SSD 840 Series, 2 1TB Western Digital WD Black HDDs
Optical Drive - Lite-On DVD Burner
Power Supply - CORSAIR HX Series HX750 750W
Case - Cooler Master HAF 912
Wi-Fi card - TP-LINK TL-WDN3800

I added a 200mm LED fan in the front to replace the 120mm fan it came with and added another 1TB HDD early this year. The original build only had 1 HDD. The airflow has been crap since I added the second HDD because of the HDD cage blocking the fan.

Some more upgrades I'd like to do:
A better video card
Aftermarket cooler for the CPU
Add a 200mm fan on the top of the PC
Add another 1TB HDD
Add a fan to the side

I built my first PC in fall '09: i7 860, 8 GB DDR3, GTX 260 216 cores, 60 GB SSD. That died when I was trying to play Alan Wake (otherwise would've kept using it forever) The only thing it was missing was USB3 and SATA3, but that was not a deal killer.

So, last summer I built (reused certain parts from previous builds):

i5 4670
8 GB DDR3
GTX 770
256 GB Samsung 840 Pro (OS), 128 GB Samsung 840 Pro (Steam), 80 GB Intel 330 (Steam)
WD Black 1 TB
Windows 8.1
Fractal Design Define R4

I will put my favorite pc.

Cooler master elite 120 case. ---- white model not the black one.
an Asrock z77 -itex mobo
a crucial m5 240 gh mSata
a samsung blu ray.
an antec ea 650 watt platinum psu.
an intel i7 3770t
a gelid pair of white led fans intake and psu.
a samuel 17 prolimatech

I have torn this down with 3 or 4 gpu swap outs.

hd6770 to r290x no gpu now just the 4000 intel built in gpu

I have had lots of different ram sticks. I have some low cost kingston 4gb sticks.

I have used this machine to mine 24/7/365 for two years.

along with testing mining gear. testing software. I can't say enough about it.

It is mining 12 gridseed units and 20 usb sticks as I type this message on t.
