The Kobe/Lakers saga

I'm looking at some of the things going around about Kobe and how he called out the Lakers and asked to be traded, and although he did retract the statement I think he still wants out. Some people are saying that Kobe is being disloyal to the Lakers even though they stuck by him, but I think that when they refused to deal Bynum for Kidd, they were basically closing the window for Kobe to win in LA. I think its perfectly reasonable for him to want out after the Lakers pretty much traded Kobe's prime for Bynum's uncertain future.

What are your thoughts?

He should retire. :)

He is no MJ, but he should learn from him to get out while you are on top.

It makes me sad that egos in todays day and age are more important than teamwork and being loyal to a team.

To Laker fans, any decision not going in Kobe's favor is a slap in [his] face. Maybe, just maybe, the Lakers are trying to build a long term franchise instead of getting Kidd over for a couple of years. Regardless of Kobe's thoughts, the Lakers will be a franchise after his departure from the team/game.

They should trade him for a bunch of scrubs ... that could be some hilarity for us, or insult to him.

Kobe is good - but his ego needs checked. He f'ed himself over with the Shaq trade, and he is not a main star - he is a complimentary star. He needs someone big there with him, or he's going to stay where he is forver. He is not Magic, he is not Jordan, he is not The Dream, Shaq, Robinson or Duncan.

Shaq ran himself out of town.. He yelled at and cursed at Dr. Buss DEMANDING gigantic pay raises and extensions on his contrat that would have paid him 38 million dollars per year at the age of THIRTTY EIGHT..

Stay ignorant.. the world is probably better off that way

Name a star that athlete doesn't have an ego? You can't, that's a fact. Secondly, Kobe is the best player in the league at this moment, and that's a fact. Third, I think Kobe will be in Chicago next season. Kobe for Luol, Tyrus and either BG or Hinrich.

that will never happen, ever. They will not be giving up literally, the ENTIRE team for Kobe. That would be like switching LA's crappy team with Chicago, pointless.

He probably still wants out and you can't blame him. He hasn't betrayed the Lakers by requesting the trade. The way he went about it was immature and unsophisticated, but he is justified in wanting out. They passed up a lot of deals that could have made the team competitive.

I wonder about what the Lakers' plan is player wise. They supposedly agreed to make some changes, and none have been made. Are they really just going to not keep their word, or is there going to be some new talent coming in? I don't think Bynum will be a superstar.

Jerry Buss really ruined everything, at least for this year. Kobe had been quiet since his outburst in the summer. Now, Buss comes out and says Kobe's on the table. It'll be a tumultuous season. I hope Kobe does leave because it seems like there's no way back. I hope he comes to the east, but not to the Bulls (EW).

None of the people you mentioned achieved anything without other star teammates at their sides.

Yeah, seriously. Who has Kobe had since the departure of Shaq? Odom has been terrible.

So many things wrong about that post i don't know where to start....

Shaq forced himself out of LA, not Kobe. They have both admitted to that.

Now on to the solo superstar logic, none of the ones you listed did it alone.

Magic - Abdul Jabbar
Shaq - KB, D-wade
Robinson - Duncan
hakeem - won because jordon wasn't in the league.
Duncan - robinson, parker, ginobili

Notice something there? Who is the only guy who won without a bigman? Jordan. He will also be the only one to ever do it.

The lakers organization is content with Kobe selling tickets, winning a championship is 2nd priority.

They know that since Kobe is the best player in the nba, there's this mystic that he's capable of just going on fire and get them to the finals.

Reality though is there's only so much a one man army can do especially in the west.

The lakers have made no logical moves since Shaq left.

They traded Caron Butler who is a decent role player for butter fingers Kwame Brown in a sign and trade no less. Following a decent playoff performance, the Lakers immediately pick up his option for this coming season, when they easily could've waited to see how he performed the past season and save themselves 9 million which would've been used to sign someone else.

They gave Radmonovic full mid level exception last. the idiot proceeds to go snowboarding and hurts himself. They could've spent the money on Marcus Bank. Not a great player but a decent player who is many times better than Smush Parker who is a defensive liability.

The lakers will eventually have to do something probably sooner rather than later. Or Kobe will walk away and they get nothing.

No big man is correct. But Jordan had someone by name of Scottie Pippen to help him out. He was not a one man army.

Kerr also contributed greatly in my eyes.

I think it would have been awesome to see Garnet and Kobe together as lakers. But, what do I know.

kerr came off the bench and shot threes. He was a good shooter, but was nowhere near a 'star' of that team.

MJ
Pippen
Rodman
Kukoc
Harper

or

MJ
Pippen
Armstrong
Paxon
Grant

man do i miss those teams :( Now all we have is the most boring championship team to ever exist in the Spurs.

Kobe is to the lakers what Pippen was to the bulls.

Same star play the year after the big star left, same pouting that same year (See pippens game 93-94 semi finals vs the knicks) and same disapointment/wanting out after.
