In order to be Jewish in a mixed marriage the Mother has to be jewish, then by default the children are jewish. The father being jewish does not make him a jew. Now, he may IDENTIFY as a jew but that does not make him one.

No, that is how "Jewish" is defined by the state of Israel for purposes of its law of return. It's not a universal definition of what is a Jew.

Still waiting for final evidence to come in but I can predict one thing.

If proven true Trump will say nothing
If its a hoax, cheeto will spew out a Twitter tsunami.

If this attack is proven since Trump spoke up for that Texas kid you would think it warrants a mention. At least from a President representing ALL people.

The more that comes out, the less believable the story is. My first reaction was outrage, now I'm wondering if I've been played.

Sometimes it's better to wonder that at the top of a tree rather than in a leopard's jaws.

Sure, it could be. But, it really is a weird letter. The artwork in marker is so strange. A person took the time to cut out letters, but, spent two seconds using a red market to draw a horrible and weird picture.

There is no continuity so it seems weird. Then again, I'm not the type to do this type of thing either, so maybe its beyond my intuition.

The alternative theory would be that the letter is a forgery or fake. The thing about forgeries is, the argument that there is something strange or erroneous actually makes it less likely to be a forgery. Because people who are forging things are careful. While people who do things in real life are not. And sometimes they do strange things like cut out letters and hand write in the same letter. A forger would probably not think to do it that way. If it's weird for an actual stalker to do it that way, it's also weird for a forger to do it that way too, weirder actually.

I once had an argument with a Holocaust denier over a incriminating document which contained a misspelling of the German city "Hannover" (it had one n). The denier argued the document had to be a forgery because no German would misspell "Hannover." Actually, it's a lot more likely a typist at the SS would leave off an "n" in the ordinary course of doing his or her job than a careful forger misspelling the name of a well known city.

According to the torah, (Kiddushin 3:12) it is. I personally don't care. The OP opened with "Jewish actor" so.....

I wasn't aware of that. Still, Jews treat anyone who identifies as a Jew as being Jewish. If you were raised Jewish, went through Bar Mitzvah, etc. no one is going to say you aren't a Jew. In the real world, the only consequence of the mother not being Jewish is you don't get automatic citizenship in Israel.

Also, BTW, that reference is the Talmud, not the Torah. Those are teachings and traditions, not law.

Actually, its complicated. You would be surprised as to how people that convert are treated vs genetic. Being Jewish is different than being Muslim, or Christian.

And you stay in denial while there is EVIDENCE the Pittsburgh killer executed 11 Jews was inspired by a tweet from Trump.

And while you are at it go fuck yourself.

Who fucking cares? John Lennon's murderer was inspired by Catcher in the Rye. So does that mean Salinger's intent was inspire murder? The Bachman Books: Four Early Novels by Stephen King is reported to have inspired a few murder sprees...does that mean King's intention was to do so?

Youre a fucking moron.

edit: My point is, it doesnt matter who or what the attackers inspiration was. Its his/their fault ALONE.

A President of the United States fomenting hate, racism and antisemitism and you don't give a shit? You don't think it's a concern for the country? It's the POTUS you asshole not some 2-bit author. That position is supposed to represent who we are as a nation or were you too stupid to learn that in grade school?

You are a vile disgusting human being. Remember if you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem.

I wouldn't be "surprised" since I myself am half Jewish and am quite familiar with Jews. My sister actually decided to do a conversion. No, she isn't treated differently. That may be true of the orthodox, but they are only a small percentage of Jews.

I live in South FL, so I'm around lots of orthodox.

And they all live in my neighborhood. Lower East Side Manhattan!

I went to a pizza place not that far from my house and they laughed at me when I asked for a pepperoni slice. I live pretty close to one of the largest concentrations of ultra orthodox in the world outside of Israel. Those guys are absolutely fucking insane.

I have multiple neighbors that have split kitchens. Two ovens, two microwaves, to fridges, ect. One side is for meat, the other side is for dairy. Dual sets of all cooking utensils. Went to eat with a friend who was orthodox and she was telling us all the little things. The restaurant had to have a Rabbi on location to make sure everything was being done properly.

The weirdest thing was that a woman could not have relations with her husband until the Rabbi confirmed she was done with her period. Literally had to go get inspected.

I also turned into a Shabbos goy.

You seem to be pretending to believe in absolutes when it suits you. It's clearly a continuum and one can't avoid arguing over specific cases, you can't make absolute claims that nobody ever has moral responsibility for the effect of their words. I don't believe you hold that stance consistently (I could think up hypothetical examples where I bet you would react differently, but they would all be in poor taste, so I'll leave it as an exercise for the reader).

If you stir someone up to hate someone else, people can perceive you has having a moral responsibility if they act on that hate. Whether they are right or wrong in that perception is going to be debatable, and people might disagree, but you can't get away from it by claiming its absolutely never the case.

You misunderstand. Blatant acts of KKK style racial violence are not common there. There's a reason: A practicing KKK member (or someone with similar beliefs) probably would not choose to live in Chicago.

Really?

This conversation makes me think of that Seinfeld episode ("I think he converted just for the jokes").

Not really picking an argument, but surely there have got to be different attitudes to converts (not just to Judaism, to almost anything), especially recent ones, than those who were born into something? Isn't that entirely inevitable and understandable to a degree?

Even on here I've seen people comment on other people's post-counts and join-dates.
