Both of the main rigs in the house already run a gig of RAM, and it's nice to have the snappy response and smooth gaming. A machine that I cobbled together to have something to play with while I "cough" work "cough" in my home office was chugging along with half-a-gig of RAM and an XP 2000+ at 12.5 x 166 (2600+) in an ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe , with a Chaintech 6600 AGP 256MB. Gameplay in HL2 and FarCry was jerky , even at 10x7 res.

I donated the 2x256MB sticks of pc2100 that were in the rig to a friend and popped in 2 sticks of 512MB Mushkin Basic Green RAM, and it's a new machine now...much quicker feeling and the gaming boost is readily apparent.

Even more apparent was the increase in 3DM'03.. see below...

512 MB RAM, 6600 @ 399/500 - 4038

1024 MB RAM, 6600 @ 399/500 - 5227

Stock speeds for the card are 300 MHz core and 500 MHz memory, but the card runs at 399 MHz core no prob. Both tests were run with image quaity at max performance, AA and AF at App preference. The increase in points, as well as the more important gameplay feel, is substantial.

This topic ahs been covered many times, yes, and this is not new news, but the percentage increase in measureable performance is worth mentioning.
