The James Bond Casino Royale Theme Song That Didn't Get Picked

I had the opportunity to visit Singer Productions last week here in the city and checked out Scott Singer's audio production studio. Scott was one of the finalists for composing the theme song for the latest James Bond movie, Casino Royale. I listened to the track in Scott's studio and thought it was awesome and sounds like a genuine James Bond theme song. This track reminded me of Tina Turner singing the theme song to Golden Eye. Unfortunately, Sony Pictures didn't pick up Scott's track, but instead picked the track, "You Know My Name," composed by Chris Cornell of Audioslave, formerly of Soundgarden fame.

Scott asked me to spread the word around and expose his track to all the James Bond fans and let them decide on whether Sony made the right decision or totally f'ed up on the pick. You can listen to Scott's track, Casino Royale on his myspace page.

You can read more about Scott at Singer Productions. Scott is a San Francisco State University grad and winner of multiple Grammy's.

Update: Scott just sent me a new mix of this track. The drum machine was replaced by a live drummer. The link is for the 192 kbps MP3 version for anyone who's interested. At this point, we all know Sony's not gonna change anything, I just want people to give it a listen to this cleaner version and post their thoughts comparing Chris Cornell's track and Scott Singer's track. Thanks

It wouldn't play for me, then 20 seconds of it played, then stopped.

No offense, but he's just whining. I don't think the song is that impressive - I couldn't imagine hearing that in the theater when the opening credits are rolling. Plus - it's not like they held open auditions for the song. He spent thousands of his own dollars, blood, sweat, and tears like any other musician does in hoping to make it big and is complaining because he feels rejected.

Sony didn't spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on arranging a score, hiring a symphony, etc to make the soundtrack for a movie only to have some guy submit his own song and get picked. Jeez. He's acting like his life is over.

seeing as how myspace is 50% grown men, and 50% 14 year old school girls, Thats not really surprising.

Honestly it aint that great at all. The worst part: that 1980's base line sound. The singing is ok, but seems too cliche.

Who cares? It's up to Sony and the director(s) to choose the music for their movies. Plus, I think the song sounds overly synthesized and it's not that catchy, unlike most Bond themes. This guy needs to act like a professional by saving face and just make a better song next time.

For anyone interested, the track Sony picked for Casino Royale is called You Know My Name (click link). I don't know about you, but it doesn't fit in at all. A rock song in a James Bond film?

Typical perfectionist response from the AT crowd. /golfclap

Oh and for the people who said it's over synthesized, what do you expect from a small audio production company? It's not like the guy has the resources to hire an entire Symphony Orchestra for a demo. I'm gonna see if I can get Scott to give me a 128bit MP3 of his track.

Casino Royale is about reinventing Bond. The song they chose is odd, but it's where they want to go, I guess.

HOWEVER... Singer's theme is bad any way you slice it, and it would have made me less happy than what they did choose.

I dunno, the song Sony chose itself isn't bad, but you don't get the feeling you're watching a Bond movie listening to it. Singer's song could use some cleaning up though, but maybe its the bitrate that makes it sound bad.

Um, if the song was seriously that good you would have gotten a better response. Cry me a fvcking river. Coming from the guy who is more negative than anyone else I've ever seen on ATOT.

I like Chris Cornell's song better. They used a techno song for Die Another Day remember.

Singing sounds too cliche for a bond movie. Song has no depth and sounds way too synthesized (even after he replaced that damn drum machine).

The main problem that I notice is that it sounds too much like a Bond theme. It feels very derivative; practically everything in the song seems like it's taken from another Bond theme or soundtrack. Particularly Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies.
