Very interesting theories, facts and maps in these links.

Pipeline ring

He [EU energy analyst] started his presentation with the growing need for oil in China and India. He stressed that China wants to become the 'workshop' of the world and India the 'office' of the world. both economies contributed combined some 44% to world economy growth during 2001-2004. He compared the USA, Japan, India and China to giant whales constantly eating fish. They had no fish near them so they started to move. He explained that the Persian Gulf is the 'fish ground', the 'gas station' of the world.
...

JFR strongly denied that there is going to be an oil peak. He says, and the oil multis seem to agree with him [- my link, JRC], that there is more than enough untouched oil and natural gas. The stupid thing: it is further to the east. Partly in Russia, but most of all, in Iran.

JFR explained to the astonished audience that Iran was the most valuable country on the planet. They have one of the biggest holdings of gas and oil reserves in the world. second in gas, second in oil. On top of that they have direct access to the Persian Gulf, the Arabian Sea and the Caspian Sea what makes them a potential platform for the distribution of oil and gas to South Asia, Europe and East Asia. JRF called Iran 'the prize' .

etc.

And:

War on Lebanon and the battle for oil

"Virtually unnoticed, the inauguration of the Ceyhan-Tblisi-Baku (BTC) oil pipeline, which links the Caspian sea to the Eastern Mediterranean, took place on the 13th of July, at the very outset of the Israeli sponsored bombings of Lebanon.

One day before the Israeli air strikes, the main partners and shareholders of the BTC pipeline project, including several heads of State and oil company executives were in attendance at the port of Ceyhan. They were then rushed off for an inauguration reception in Istanbul, hosted by Turkey's President Ahmet Necdet Sezer in the plush surroundings of the Çýraðan Palace.

Also in attendance was British Petroleum's (BP) CEO, Lord Browne together with senior government officials from Britain, the US and Israel. BP leads the BTC pipeline consortium. Other major Western shareholders include Chevron, Conoco-Phillips, France's Total and Italy's ENI. (see Annex)

Israel's Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Binyamin Ben-Eliezer was present at the venue together with a delegation of top Israeli oil officials.

The BTC pipeline totally bypasses the territory of the Russian Federation. It transits through the former Soviet republics of Azerbaijan and Georgia, both of which have become US "protectorates", firmly integrated into a military alliance with the US and NATO. Moreover, both Azerbaijan and Georgia have longstanding military cooperation agreements with Israel.

Israel has a stake in the Azeri oil fields, from which it imports some twenty percent of its oil. The opening of the pipeline will substantially enhance Israeli oil imports from the Caspian sea basin.

But there is another dimension which directly relates to the war on Lebanon. Whereas Russia has been weakened, Israel is slated to play a major strategic role in "protecting" the Eastern Mediterranean transport and pipeline corridors out of Ceyhan.

Militarization of the Eastern Mediterranean

The bombing of Lebanon is part of a carefully planned and coordinated military road map. The extension of the war into Syria and Iran has already been contemplated by US and Israeli military planners. This broader military agenda is intimately related to strategic oil and oil pipelines. It is supported by the Western oil giants which control the pipeline corridors. In the context of the war on Lebanon, it seeks Israeli territorial control over the East Mediterranean coastline.

In this context, the BTC pipeline dominated by British Petroleum, has dramatically changed the geopolitics of the Eastern Mediterranean, which is now linked , through an energy corridor, to the Caspian sea basin:

"[The BTC pipeline] considerably changes the status of the region's countries and cements a new pro-West alliance. Having taken the pipeline to the Mediterranean, Washington has practically set up a new bloc with Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and Israel, " (Komerzant, Moscow, 14 July 2006)

Israel is now part of the Anglo-American military axis, which serves the interests of the Western oil giants in the Middle East and Central Asia.

etc.

Israel and Turky plan energy pipeline

Turkey and Israel are negotiating the construction of a multi-million-dollar energy and water project that will transport water, electricity, natural gas and oil by pipelines to Israel, with the oil to be sent onward from Israel to the Far East, Antalya Mayor Menderes Turel said this week.

The proposal was confirmed by senior officials in the National Infrastructure Ministry.

"We are talking about a global energy project, which would be a very important engine of peace in the region," Turel said in an interview with The Jerusalem Post.

To be fair you should have entilted your thread.... The Israeli/US war on Iranian/Syrian/palestinian/lebenese/Soviet Union....that is if you wanted to incoude anybody supplying weapons. As it is...your title is misleading or you do not know the nations that are actually truly fighting israel.

There have been reports of iranian advisors on the ground teaching the hezbollah militia how to operate and use the missle launchers.

No wonder Hexbollah is getting it's ass kicked, even Hussiens Army was able to do a number on the Iranians Army. The only thing that kept that war at a stalemate was Irans willingness to sacrafice in soldiers in attacks that were more like suicide.

You mean, the weapons/chemicals supplied to Hussien's Army by the U.S. Gov't? :)

Dont forget we supplied the Iranians as well. We didnt have months of hearings on the Iran\Contra scandal for nothing!

Your theory on this pipeline ignores the fact that this started with Hezbollah conducting a raid into Israel.

Curiously, we had months of hearings on Iran/Contra . . . and nearly nothing before starting (and continuing) Bush War of Diminishing Returns.

It is a trait of living in denial.

While I don't agree with much of what was posted above... Independence from foreign energy supplies would give the US more of an ethical leg to stand on if getting involved in these foreign affairs.

The above is one of the reasons why I think that more people need to see "Who Killed the Electric Car?" I'd say it's nearly as important a documentary as "Super Size Me." The US (specifically GM engineers) had a solution to significantly reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Unfortunately the solution was poorly managed. The hope is the film should address one of these reasons making any renewed attempts more likely to succeed.

It doesn't ignore the fact what Hizbollah did in July 12th. In fact the vast majority of those criticizing Israel acknowledges the crime Hizbollah did. What my point highlights is one of the deeper reasons why Israel went so completely over the top. Israel's response clearly is abnormal in context of the relatively commonplace raid by Hizbollah on July 12th. Israel's response is not abnormal in the context of the current US/British/Israeli geopolitical goals for the Middle East. Israel has said they planned, and prepared for, this attack for a long time. It is no coincidence that the US has been rushing jet fuel and bombs to Israel to keep the bombings going.

Israel by itself planned for this along time ago.
Most likely after the last exchange of prisoners.
Trust me when I say the United States was a suprised as anybody that this happenned.
They did not know ahead of time.
The United States is NOT rushing jet fuel amd bombs to tIsrael.
Israel had paid for those items before the war started.
If you doubt what I am saying please providse links from reputable sources that are not from the niddle east or slanted in there opinion of whats happenning.
When you do find youre lkinks it would be nice if you made sure they backed up what you are saying 100%.

I might consider nuking Lebanon to be over the top, but I certainly wouldn't complain about it. Israel's actions are greatly restrained from any sort of action that could accomplish the defeat of Hezbollah. I'm under the impression that they are not nearly doing enough thanks to fear of world sympathy for Hezbollah.

But feel free to consider a thousand casualties a month in a war zone over the top. Cause it seems common practice to have different standards today than we had in WW2.

"Our enemy is not Hezbollah, but Iran, which employs Hezbollah as its agent," Olmert to his propaganda people.

And:

Aiming for Iran

"What sent the Israeli Defence Force into southern Lebanon three weeks ago was not only the capture of its soldiers and the threat of Hizbullah's rockets. These were certainly important, but there was a more fundamental cause. It was the opportunity Hizbullah's action seemed to offer of dealing a telling blow to Iran by crushing its Lebanese proxy, it can be argued, which danced in the minds of members of Israel's cabinet and general staff. What impelled the US, followed by Britain, to delay and obstruct the diplomacy which might have brought an earlier end to the fighting was, again arguably, that same impulse. Taking down Iran was more important than saving villagers in Lebanon or civilians in Israel.

And:

US says Iran may use Lebanon war to hurt Iraq

(Note: US Ambassador to Iraq Zalmay Khalilzad is a leading neocon)

********

Just a few examples of US/Israeli rethoric after I created this thread.

It does look like Iran is "the Prize".
