The iPod is the greatest thing EVER---so nice and sooooo durable

I can say without a doubt that the iPod is the greatest thing I have ever purchased. Mine is about a year old and I have put it through the total ringer. I run/lift with it virtually ever day, listen to everywhere (in bed, in the car, on the go, etc.), drop it, scuff it up, smack it around. And it still works likes it's brand new.

At first I was just astounded by how sleek and easy to use it was as well as the enormous number of songs it holds but now I am just slack-jawed at the amazing craftsmanship that went into making this thing.

Steve Jobs, this one's for you:

On another note, I want to upgrade to a 15 gb new model so I can use that phat new dock. Right now I have a Dell Inspiron with only a 4-pin firewire. Does anybody know if the new version's dock will be usable (both for data transfer AND charging) with the 4-pin firewire slot or do I absolutely need a 6-pin?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think they have cables on apples website under ipod accessories in the store. I have the 30gb and love it, except for the bugs that it has. (most deal with it not waking up when going to sleep and having to do a hard reset. Overall, i am very very satisfied with it.

From what i understand about firewire, 4 pin does not charge no matter what system. The extra two wires carry the charge. Just get a firewire hub. They arent to expensive.

woah!!! firewire hub??? what a great idea 🙂

i too have the problem with occasional lockdowns where i haev to do a hard restart. but the best thing is that it happens very rarely and it ALWAYS restarts. other mp3 players ive had in the past havent done so.....

another question: are there laptops out there with 6-pin firewire connector slots? i'm getting tired of my inspiron so i may want to sell it off and get something newer and slimmer. anybody know? then i wont have to deal wtih a firewire hub and all.... thanks

Bubba, don't think you'll find something like that as most lappys are designed with power consumption in mind. If you find one like that, you'll be lucky as I know of none. 🙂

Apple laptops have them.

Just get an apple. 🙂 They have 6 pin firewire and hella long battery life, (although they have had some problems with the batteries recently but they replaced them for free). There are some pmcia firewire cards that have the 6 pin adapter. They cost a little more and most block your second pcmcia slots since the connector needs to be larger for firewire.

Itrip: I really researched this device. Only problem. You get radio quality even from your 320kbit mp3s/aacs. If your deck has a the option to control a cd-changer (even if it is an oem changer) you can get a cd-changer to rca line in adapter. Usually around $20 if you want to install it yourself like me. I did that with my truck and coupled it with the belkin ipod auto charger and i get superb sound. The belkin charger has a line in on it that keeps you from having to crank up the stereo to even hear it, kind of like the dock.
