The Iphone firmware

I'm planning on buying an iphone and just use my current AT&T simcard. I'm just wondering how the firmware upgrades does it force it on there or does it let you choose whether you want to update it

It lets you choose - and you have to click several "yes" buttons to download and install it - it's definitely not stealth. If you go into iTunes and go into Edit -> Preferences and then uncheckmark the box that's second from the bottom about not automatically checking for updates, you won't even know that a new update is available.

But then again the only reason one would not want to update the firmware is the new FW apparently bricks unlocked iphones.
