The IOC isn't very happy with American jingoism at the olympics it seems...

<< The wave of American jingoism and intense security that has marked the first week of the Winter Olympics here has led to senior officials of the International Olympic Committee privately expressing concerns about whether the US can ever stage another Olympic event.

The games have already been dubbed the "red, white and blue Olympics" because almost every event has patriotic overtones in the wake of the terrorist attacks on September 11. Nationalism has always been a part of the Olympics but IOC officials here feel the event is being used simply as propaganda for the US war effort.

The amount of the kickbacks and bribes they're receiving must not be sufficient.

Screw the corrupt IOC, and take the games with you. Good ridddance.

jingoism is a word that is being WAY over used right now. The simple word "patriotism" would be fine, but the anti-american media likes to make themselves look smart and elite by using the word jingoism.

The security is for the athletes fricken protection. Maybe in Athens in 2 years a fricken bomb will get smuggled in and kill a ton of people, then people will think "hey the US was pretty smart to have that security after all!"

They are right. We Americans simply fail to see whats wrong with draping thw world with out beliefs and values - and we wonder why the world has such animosity for us?

The IOC can bite me. They get a cut of the profits from every Olympics held. If they make money (which they routinely do when the US hosts the games), those whores would host it in the middle of KKK rally with all the athletes wearing sheets and hoods.

<< A strong anti-American feeling has existed among many IOC members since 1998 when 10 of its members were forced to resign or were expelled after they were found to have accepted a total of $1m in cash, gifts, scholarships and other inducements to win votes for Salt Lake's Olympic candidacy. >>

I don't see how IOC can talk smack to its sugardaddy, but I can see where they're coming from. Frank Deford wrote a piece at cnnsi.com that touches on this subject too...

Without American financial endorsements, the IOC loses 80% of its funding. I say we dump them in protest and see how long it takes for them to come begging.

this is very messed up, every country that hosts it comes out in force to show their patriotism, it happens no matter where you are, they are just upset because we have come out with even more people this year, and we are actually doing well at the winter olympics for a change.

Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, hell just plain freedom. IF the rest of the world doesn't want to share my belief in freedom and that all people are created equal, then screw them they can have the olympics. I will take my beliefs in freedom.

Beijing 2008! Hoorah! Going to visit? Just don't let the police hear you talking smack about communism.

That's the mentality that comes off as being smug, or being U.S.-centric, etc to the people who don't live in the U.S.. The rest of the world sees the Olympics as an international event, while the games of this year strongly come off as a vehicle of the U.S. patriotism. The games aren't about the U.S., but it sure seems that way to some people this year. Personally, I don't care, but I know what they're talking about.

LOL Wow what ignorance.

Call me crazy but I thought bribes and corruption were universally bad. LOL You watch far too much BBC. We are being punished for uncovering exploitation and you have the stupidity to agree with the Europeans who see this as bad.

Wow.

Translation: We haven't gotten a juicy bribe from the USOC in awhile, so someone needs to cough up some loot or we'll disgrace another figure skating judge, and you wouldn't want that, now, would you?

A really fit person that needs a job. hahahah...did you know that they have a world circuit for bobsledding? i mean come on. i watch all the events on TV anyway, so if they take them to other countries...goodbye and make sure you write!

It will be interestinf to see how the Beijing-games go through. It provides nice contrast to current games.

FWIW, I really, REALLY hate the fact that China got the games! I mean, they are planning to play beach-volley in Tiananmen Square :disgust:!

Now tell me, in the whole grand scheme of things, what those critics have to say really doesn't matter does it? The attitude of the world regarding the USA isn't going to change , especially after two weeks of sking, prancing and celebrating. We have to do what is right for us. If the other have a problem with that.. well then they have a probelm.

It will be a refreshing challenge for the players to dodge the tanks!
