Good grief.

That person's logic is simply hideous. And they seem to have a poor grasp of the facts.

"AOL has in a slight way become (an ad-ridden ISP)." SLIGHT? That's like saying, Bill Clinton has a SLIGHT problem with the truth.

From the site:
<<AOL was founded on a dream that someday the Internet would be unfathomed>>

Unfathomable: adj, unable to be understood

Seems as though they got at least one thing right, even if they didn't mean to. Guess it's true that even a stopped clock is right twice a day. (Unless it's a stopped digital clock.)

EDIT: Another good quote;
<<Some say AOL reps. give generic responses to everything and are far from anything helpful. What AOL reps did you talk to? Cause I've never talked to one who wasn't un-helpful or generic. >>

<< What bothers me most out of those pages is the over exaggeration of simple glitches. But more the way they make it seem as if AOL users are some weird alien race that needs to be kept away from the "precious and so much more advanced" MSN users, EarthLink users, Netscape users and all other Internet brands >>

That was really good. I enjoyed it. It backs up my statement if you don't like it don't use it. All the AOL haters are like the people on this board who canstatnly put down another product like Nvidia or AMD because they don't like it. We tell them to stfu because we don't want to hear the constant whining but then you sit around doing the same thing by constatnly putting down AOL. Hypocrits.

What the f*ck is this?

"When one thinks of AOL, it is with the same sense of
awe and wonder with which one might feel as one gazes
across the vastness of the Grand Canyon. Or perhaps even with the same sense of magnificent love that one feels for one's newborn child. Soon the world will be wrapped entirely within the WWW and it will be the AOL member
who is the elite of the e-society. All who spurn its glories shall be the merest of e-citizenry, the e-hobo. Case has said it. It will come. Believe. -DocDrifter "

that's the biggest wad of bullsh!t I've read all week.

No way, AOL rules!!!

Whenever I use the screenname LonelyLtlGrl3874583764583658764358634857634653874583645, a bunch of really nice gentleman offer me free flights all over the world. They promise to buy me all sorts of nice stuff like Barbie Dolls. Of course the clothing they offer must be from a thrift store since they are so skimpy and there is so little material.

There must be something in the water in his area. Drug use doesnt even seem like likely reasoning. Its one thing to be dumb enough to use it, but to defend it, claiming its the best? He bumped his head...

I work for an ISP, I deal with AOL tech support almost every day. you already can imagine what I think of those blithering idiots. For example, they arent even willing to help the customer remove the software if there is an obvious interference with our services, and the customer has cancelled the AOL account. Our support boundaries dont allow us to go into the registry and remove this virus. So the customer is screwed. I try to explain something like TCP/IP stack, and they draw a blank. This is a basic part of ISP troubleshooting. Try telling me how great they are.

Let's see... pr0n is positive, safe so you don't spread diseases, and Rosey Plam, along with her five sisters, knows how to show a guy a good time. Yup, AOL is a helpful tool for a positive, safe, fun experience on the internet.

<< "I can't live without AOL."-anonymous >>

I can't live without methadone, what's your point?

<< AOL automatically updates when you sign off. What other ISP does that? >>

What other ISP needs to do that? What other ISP uses such bloated software to make you connect to the internet. Gotta use AOL's crappy software just to be able to use IE.. Why not use DUN and load up IE.. Don't get me started on AOL's <sic>browser.

Up date what? My tcp/ip stack? I'm fine thank you hehe.

Let me plays devils advocate for a minute:
The following views are not to be taken seriously.

Whats wrong with AOL for a large percentage of the population? If I set my dad down at the computer he will do 90% of his surfing from a portal site like yahoo or whereever I have it set to load. Isn't that all AOL is now really anyway? I have a customer who is like 65 years old, why should I try to teach her to first dial up the isp, then select a browser, then a chat client, then a mail client, etc? Its built to be easy to use and for the most part it succeeds at that. I think thats great.

A similar analogy might be homebuilt computers. If you ask me compaq's blow, but would I recommend that elderly lady to buy some parts and slap her own computer together even though I know it will be better.....of course not. The compaq will work for her. If you're not an enthusiast it won't make that much of a difference I contend

I will never be caught dead using AOL, but I let my mom use it hehe :)
