The Internet, a 6 year old, VNC, and GHOSTS !!!!

Ok so my son (6 years old) has been begging me to ad him to our home network so I finally added a patch cable to his network card in His room. But I'm worried about what he's looking at so I put some favorites on his browser, Example: nick.com, pbskids.com, kidswb.com, etc, etc, etc.

So anyway I want to make sure he does'nt stray away from innocent sites (I know about the software I could get to protect him) Anyway I installed VNC on his and my computer (www.realvnc.com) it allows me to see his computer screen on my screen and input functions like open programs, move his mouse it basically gives me control of his computer (For those of you who do not know already).

I don't tell him that I can monitor him from mine, So I thought I'd have a little fun with him, While he was on nick.com I open notepad and typed NICK YOU ARE NOT ALONE.....

He comes RUNNING in the living room like a mad man "DAD THERES GHOSTS ON MY COMPUTER" He looked like he wanted to cry, he was shaking. I told him it was a virus he said no its ghosts, So I told him don't worry about it and go back to your room, He said ok and went back to his room. So I started moving his mouse again, He comes running in "DAD THERE BACK ITS DOING IT AGAIN" I don't want the internet NO MORE take it away please.

I want him to use the net and be on his computer as much as possible to learn it so I fiqured I better tell him about VNC
he said HA thats cool "BUST" (I guess bust means I got him) anyway now he wants to control my computer

Just because his son knows about the software now doesn't mean that he can't still monitor him in the future anonymously.

IN FACT just the other day I heard him and his friend talk about IRC :Q Seriously!! Hes like thank god for Parity files. I was like NICK come here what are you talking about? It turns out he did'nt know what parity files were he was just repeating what he heard.

My 12yo hasn't gotten into the net yet... He's been too busy developing game mods! Seriously!!! He started by building horrendously complex maps for Starcraft a coupla years ago. Now he does Descent 3 levels, and is starting on 3d ship design. :Q

He's just starting to discover the net. I've managed to keep him off since I'm not home enough to monitor (and my wife's clueless about computers), but it's getting to be impossible. Especially since he's going to an advanced jr high next year.

 

We did this to a guy that came over to my friends house all of the time and wouldn't leave. My friend carried on a conversation with this guy for hours (the whole time he's in the room next to him). This guy was so stupid, he bought whatever we fed him. We had him believing that the computers were forming a "resistance" to the human populace and that there would soon be a reveloution.

We told him (or rather the computer did) that if he didn't help the computers prepare, and if he told anyone the secret, he would die. One night at a party he got a little drunk. He proceeded to tell me and five of my friends the whole story, but swore us to secrecy for fear he would die. The next day the "Computer" had a chat with him at home. He had brought his PC over awhile back to be fixed by my friend. At which point he had installed VNC. So now the "computer" was telling him (at home) that he knew he leaked the secret and his time was near.

The guy moved away shortly after that and noone's heard from him since.

This is all true...on my mothers grave.....d@mn I miss making fun of him!

But seriously he's pretty well rounded he plays outside just as much, Plus he likes reading books, and he's fit not a fat a$$ from sitting on his butt all day. Plus his teacher told me she wishes she could CLONE nick as he's the brightest in the class. I built him his P3 for his 4th birthday and he loves it.

I'm so proud of him.

My boys (9 and 6) sound the same as your son, except exchange the words "parity files" and "IRC" with "a$$butt" and "sex".
