the indian shooting the star on tootsie roll pops

why are we supposed to look for the indian shooting a star on the wrapper of tootsie roll pops. I always remember people looking for it on the wrapper. wats the point of it......

i was eating one now, so i thought id ask.....and i only got half of the indian

haha, cool. i always wondered about this as a kid. no one ever got any free candy when i used to buy tootsie pops, so i guess it should have been obvious that it was just a rumor.
