I've heard many stories of all the inaccuracies on Cpu temperature readings from owners of many diff. MB's & was wondering what the best alternate setup would be to measure them more accurately ? Some type of temp probe with digital temp readout ? ........... (don't know brand specific or what to look for) ............. New to the scene so to speak .

Does Radio Shack carry anything that would make the grade that's rather simple but fairly accurate ? If not , can you post a link or two that has about what I'm looking for ?

Thanks ;)

you can buy probes to measure the temp, but they also are inaccurate.... the only way to know the actual temp is if the cpu has an internal diode (like the new athlonxp) tbirds dont have one.... but another problem is i dont know of any current motherboard that actually has the hardware to read the diode on the cpu, im sure it will be a feature we start seeing very soon though

This thing has been beaten to death on another forum.... listen we are not planning to send a man to Mars or into rocket science and we are not measuring the core temps down to the atom level. We and perhaps CorCentral are HOBBYIST when we ask for having a temp probe we all know from the broken noses that we will NEVER have the INFINITE Accurate temp reading of a core.

Those may be even more innacurate because they are dependent on the bios, temps from bios to bios can vary up to 10c or more. But being a Hobbyist that fine too.

I have two CompuNurse temp probes and as a Hobbyist, it gives a "general" temperature reading and according to Overclocers.com Website on how to measure cpu heat my probe is within +/- 2c and I'm comfortable with that.

You can view it here -> http://ravines.tripod.com/case/ <- it's a tripod site so it won't link to it just cut and paste in your browser.

Its not the inaccuracy of the temp readings but the various placements of the probes from different manufacturers. My Tbird on my epox was read by a rigid probe in the socket well that was on the bottom while my gigabyte mb has a flexible tape that sticks up and touches the core of the cpu itself.

It just gets tricky to compare two mbs and two temps because of the placement.
