The importance of pixel integrity and video quality with LCDs

my 21" sonly trinitron still kicks the ass of my dell 24" lcd in terms of video quality...

I don't know if the LCD's pixels are too large or what, but when I play a DVD on the LCD, it looks grainy, but when I drag it over to my CRT, it looks perfectly smooth.

Is it because the pixel ratios between the two or is the video quality too low for my LCD?

I'm guessing it's either the pixel aspect that's too low, or the quality of DVD's now a days are too low for my LCD screen? I play on both screens at full screen...

what is the exact pixel aspect ratio for an lcd this size? I don't know what mine is, but I would guess it's too low?

WEll, you CAN get a display that is not a CRT that will about meet what you get out of that CRT, but they've yet to beat it by any stretch of the imagination. Those who say otherwise either have information I'm not able to get or they are mistaken because they went from a CRT to an upgrade that included a new monitor or they went from a CRT that was of poor quality (most of 'em out there) to their new technology.

If I've Googled right and picked the right one, here's a link that has specs...

http://www1.us.dell.com/content/product...&cs=22&l=en&s=dfh&~tab=specstab#tabtop

Notice the response time of 12 ms? Dell will sell you a high end one now that has a response time of 11 ms, which cuts down, but not quite eliminates the blur. I'm kinda puzzled, because at another site, they have a link that talks about that monitor and they say 16 ms there. Aslo, I've yet to find in my short look contrast ratios for that display.

With a pixel pitch of 0.27, don't expect alot from it. Also, see all the ands, if and whatnots at the bottom of those specs. Maybe you've got it in the wrong mode or your PC doesn't support well this...

1 To optimize this monitor's performance, your system must be able to support WSXGA+ resolution (1680 x 1050).

I dunnow. Still, I've tey to see even a smaller non-crt type do as well until you were paying for like a 19 incher something like $900.00 U.S.
