I'm looking for an ideal case that would have:

1-2 slots for optical drives
room for at least 4 HDDs & 2 SSDs
be silent or close to it
provide adaquate cooling for all the components

So far, the best I've been able to come up with is the Lian-Li PC-9F.

Is there anything out there that would be a better choice?

Are there other things I should consider before making the purchase?

Remember, a case is only as quiet as the stuff you put in it. Don't expect to put delta fans in a "quiet" case and still have it quiet :p

I like Silverstone Cases. The FT02 is a classic case, take a look at it.

Who makes the best (most quiet) fans?

I'm running GentleTyphoon AP-13 (1150rpm) 120mm fans on a Thermalright TRUE, and they are very quiet. I don't know if they are the *best*, but they are definitely up there. Scythe S-Flex fans are good too. If you're looking for low noise you'll probably want to stay under 1200rpm for any fan.
