The idea that women can't drive is not a stereotype...

...its true. Just now as I was driving home after picking up some lunch I was driving up a hill at about 45 M.P.H. (the speed limit). This girl in a Jetta pulled right out in front of me coming out of a 7-11. Of course I had to brake, and I also gave her a good honk. :|

Both are equally as bad. The thing is though that insurance companies don't know about all the times women get pulled over (probably lots more than men) because cops are more lenient with women.

Actually, it is a stereotype (judgement of an entire group based on a few examples.)

It just happens to be more accurate than most. ;)

Its damn true. I've been in the passenger seat with my mom when she'd get pulled over and she'd always get a warning? I'd do the exact same thing later on (to a lesser extent) and get a ticket.

Like when she there was a no right turn on red, but she made the turn anyway. She got a warning.

I did the same thing, was stopped at like 11 at night with no traffic, and made the turn. Cop gave me a ticket.

Must be something to do with a middle-aged woman blabbering about how she didn't know and is sorry. For guys, the cop will just think you're a dumbass.

I give it 10-20 more years and we'll see women's insurance rates hit the same levels as men. It'll happen in our lifetime for sure.

If you think about it, it's only been relativly recently that women had their own cars. When my sister was in highschool (graduated in 1992), a lot of her classmates didn't have cars, they counted on their parents/boyfriends to drive them around.

When I graduated, every girl in my class had a car, and they were in more accidents then the guys too.

Women aren't "safer drivers", they just haven't been driving in large enough numbers for enough time to build up statistics the insurance companies believe.

In my experience, women are typically bad drivers.
They are also typically sluts.

you realize we only need one counterexample to prove the hypothesis to be false.

No, poor boat. Screw the Civic ;)
Oh, and women drivers suck. Sorry if you don't believe it, but every man on the face of this earth who has been driving an automobile on public roads for any length of time can recall incidents of women driving poorly. If you deny that then you're either a liar or just blind. Women suck at teh driving!

That statement makes you a typical asshole.

Well... you're typical too! *edit* and you're just saying that because you're married, aren't you? Well... uh... nm. ;)

For that Civic to be able to not push the boat away and fall into the water, the car must've been going fairly slow towards the boat, which would have had to be fairly close to the dock. Not a spinout or anything, a slow <10mph walk into nowhere. Ugh.

I almost got run over by a hot asian girl on her cell phone.. I was walking on campus and the dumb bitch didn't want to wait for me and almost clipped my legs but I moved. Argh..

I have never seen a good female driver. Whenever I'm in a car and a girl is driving, I can't help but feel nervous because she'll be looking at the passengers to have a conversation with them.

My ex-gf used to ask why I didn't look at her when I was driving - um.. maybe cause' I'm DRIVING. My mom used to bitch at my dad because he didn't look at her when he was driving. It's not fair that guys' insurance is higher.

i've only known two females in my life who didn't put me in danger when they drove, and that was because they paid extra attention to their driving, not because they were any good. the rest were either not at all focused on the task at hand, complete psychos, physically incompentent, or some combination of the three. i've driven with some male drivers who weren't very good, either, but i've driven with plenty who i felt safe with as well.

i think it really comes down to the ability of the brain to work with new sensory data and produce the correct changes in the enviroment. Your brain isn't hardwired to learn to see, hear, move, or any of that. They've done studies where they connect the eyes of weasels to the parts of their brains that the ears are usually connected to and the weasels learn to see. you can connect a camera to electrodes on your tongue and learn to see that way, too. Driving a car is the same thing, only with movements. To drive well, you have to have a brain that can adapt to a car and have it function the same as your body. Essentially your arms and legs simply become the muscles of your body, which is the car.

Your brain has to be able to detect your car rotating too much in a turn, process it and understand it instantly, and automatically produce the correct action to produce the desired effect, the same way you know you are going to fall, so you steady yourself. My experience is that girls don't drive this way (i'm sure there are exceptions, but this is based on my experience with people i've been passengers of). They drive the way old people play video games. Every action has to be thought out to some degree and they have no perception of what the car is telling them as they drive. They don't stop the car, they step on a pedal. They don't turn, they move a wheel. Obviously having a brain that can adapt to driving isn't the end-all-be-all, since even in our normal bodies, we can still fall down, drop things, bump into things, etc. But it sure beats operating everything by "remote" control.

pile that on top of choosing to not pay any attention and the usual driving-aggression that everyone has, and you've got a dangerous combo.
