Hi ppl. I have a 45 GB 75GXP. Now, I have been experiencing the clicking noises which some have found. Now, I am looking to get another hard drive anyway using one of teh Promise cards. However, will the IBM drive fix that I have heard about completely fix this problem forever on my drive? Also, got a link?Cheers

It isn't really anything wrong with the drive...

It is a timing issue with the controller and windows2000.

What is this "fix" that you are talking about... IBM tech support recommended disabling APM and ACPI as a work around. is that what you are referring to?

Well, I hear this in Windows Me, although it could be the drive coming across bad sectors.

It erases the drive or something, or analyses it and tells you to return it or something.

I think that the clicking in perfectely normal, well i you had a old quantum you appreciate you IBM deskstar. But I had an IBM 20 GB deskstar and it develop a bad sector overnight, so you might want to download a scan disk from IBM web site.
