I read all the books when I was dating a girl in college who was a big Harry Potter fan. They're an entertaining read for what they are; it's hardly high literature, but it's a nice diversion. I saw all the movies too, and while I didn't dislike them, I also wasn't completely enthralled with any of them. They were passable (although I did like the Deathly Hallows Part 2 more than any other HP film). I wouldn't call myself a fan of Harry Potter by any means, but I also don't actively dislike it; it's merely something I've consumed and assimilated into my conscious.

Ive seen most of the movies with my kid and read all but the last book. It was more for my son than for myself. If I didnt have my son I probably would never have read any of the books nor seen any of the movies. That being said, I did enoy the books, the movies, especially the earlier ones, were ok, but when they just grew up it was not fun. But, the movies, IMO, were more entertaining than LOTR. I read the books several times and always keep asking, WTF did they not just get the bigass bird to fly the douche to the mountain and drop the effing ring in the lava in like ONE day and not many months/years. Yes, I am one of those LOTR haters. I also hate the last 3 SW movies and think george lucas should be shot for that and the last indiana jones movie.
